14/08/09 - Wakefield Park Track Day

Postby swingn » Tue May 05, 2009 9:58 am

I heard back from Wakefield this morning regarding an intructor... If we are keen (Particually if this is your first time on the track) we can have a driving instructor present on the day.

From my own experience at Oran Park, I found it very informative & a great benefit. Some friends that have been on the track before have also expressed interest in this service to be able to get that little bit more out of their track day.

Cost would be $550 (Obviously split between all of us) so in reality based on 20 cars attending, it would only cost $27.50... Which is good value IMO.

Like I said in my original post, it just depends on how much we all want to get out of this day vs how much we spend.

I'm also trying to finalise the costs on hiring a timer for the day (Looking to be a similar price to the driving instructor thus far).

Personally, I don't know that timing is all that good an idea. Sure, if you want someone to come along with a stopwatch to time your own laps. But timing for everyone could lead to people becoming unecessarily competitive. For most of us, the cars on the track will be daily drivers, not race cars. I think the idea should be to go out there and enjoy the feeling of driving the car fast. I think adding timing into the mix could induce the old red mist.

Up to you guys in the end though. Just thought I'd put that forward

Very valid point. So if we do go for it, people will need to be sensible about it.

The main reason I think it will be good, it too track your progress. I don't think this will be the last track day for the Liberty Club at Wakefield... So having a timer is a good way to track your progress as a driver & also your cars abilities (For those who have modded :D )

Remember, driving hard & pushing you car to the limit should always be done on the track rather then a public road... So I'd rather see our members get pumped & go hard at Wakefield, then doing it on the street :D

Hi All

Just some info on pricing etc...

After some thought, I think it would be best to cap the numbers of cars to 35. This way, the day is not too big & we are all assured a large amount of track time :D

As it stands, we have 21 parties interested... Pricing is as follows:

Track Costs = $236.00

Wakefield License (If one is not currently held or you do not have a CAMS 2S license) = $50.00

Extra's would be as follows:

Timing = $28.00

Driving Instructor (I highly recomend as there will be a lot of track noobs) = $27.00

Track Marsh (Would reccomend only if we have say 25-30 + cars) = $14.00

All figures are based on 21 cars attending & will vary depending on the final numbers :D

Although I would love to see our Liberty's dominate the track, in the interest of keeping the costs down, if you do have any friends that may be interested, please feel free to invite them along. Just remember, I will be capping the number to 35 cars.

For those people who's status is "TBC" can you please confirm your availability ASAP as we will need to pay a deposit sooner rather then later.

i think regardless of timing, guys will be competitive anyway - you are after all out there with other cars and trying to either chase them down or pull away from them - so having timing there or not i don't think will be that much difference, the main thing is to know your limits and have general track etiquette.

But it is good to monitor your progress and how you compare with others in a different group, and for general bragging rights :D

but with all these additional costs could be very expensive track day!!!

oh, can i reserve 2-3 spots for some friends? or we over the limit already?

Brendan, as we only have 21 people interested thus far (& 6 are TBC) please do invite a few of your mates :D

At this stage, those who have expressed interest (& are listed) will have preference... As well as any other Liberty ASN members.

If you look at the figures I posted previously, even if we take all the optional extras, it will only cost $355 including the Wakefield license... IMO, for what we will get, I think it's a great price... & the more people we have involved, the cheaper it will be! :D
