The Next Sydney Drive - Sunday Feb 22 - Updated 16/2

Postby Roddez » Fri Jan 23, 2009 8:41 am

Gents, looks like we will need to change the date here...

I wouldn't like to suggest the following weekend as it's Valentines day on the Saturday.

So, I propose Sunday Feb 22nd.

I'll update the main thread and see how we go.

Also, where do people want to go? Any suggested destinations?

Has anyone done the Mt Irvine and Mt Wilson roads in the upper Blue Mtns? It runs almost parallel to Bells Line of Road. Could be a good alternative route, and by the looks of things has lots nice twisties.

Could do a Sydney to Richmond to Mt Wilson, then onto the Great Western Hwy to Katoomba, then back towards Sydney via Hawkesbury Heights. Meetup at Homebush or somewhere central. Some great lookouts along the way for some photos and plenty of pitstops.

Getting from the Bells Line through Mt Wilson to Mt Irvine and a fair way beyond looks OK. however, there doesn't appear to be a sealed access to Mt Irvine Rd from the east. The only eastern access seems to be Bowens Creek rd and going by the google earth footage looks like 5 or 10km or more of dirt rd down and up either side of a seemingly steep valley

Hmmm yeah that's what i thought. Oh well.

Could simply do Bells along to Katoomba, then back to Hawkesbury Heights to Richmond. Simple route, probably been done to death, but it's a start. :)

why not go North? Much better road if you aren't going to venture into the country west of Lithgow
