Exhaust Defect/ lowness "Warning"

Exhaust Defect/ lowness "Warning"

Postby JDGT05 » Fri May 04, 2012 9:49 am

Hey WA guys,

Had a run in with the po po last night they pulled me over for a "random" breath test. After breezing through that they decided to inspect my car for the next 30 minutes. Popped my hood and they found nothing as the guy barely new his way around the engine bay.

This was followed by "mate your car is too low, I don't have my measuring tools but it's definitely too low, also these exhaust tips, going to have to get them fixed mate, they have to sit flush with your rear guard they can't stick out like that". I won't give you a sticker tonight but get it fixed.

I believe the lowest part of the car is allowed to be 100mm off the ground (correct me if I'm wrong) the problem I face is that all though the rest of the exhaust sits at the correct height but it drops below legal where the 'Y' pipe splits off.

I have an Ultrex full Catback exhaust, anyone else had any run ins?

Basically, after I have wasted the last 5 minutes of your life listing to me dabble.

Anyone want to recommend me an exhaust shop that I can get some work done to get that Y pipe sitting higher as well as dropping those tips in a little deeper.

I wish to avoid police attention as much as much as possible, difficult in a red car but ah well.

Picture of the exhaust tips in question.

Thankyou for your time and listening to my complaint I needed to vent.

Defect -> raise coilovers -> clear defect -> lower coilovers -> repeat.

hmmm, as long as the exhaust tips dont protrude past the bumpers furtherest point above them I think you are ok.
You can read some ADRs to double check, pretty boring going though.

Mettams in Morley is near you I think? Id try them.

Hate it when cops dont know the ADRs properly.....which is most of them unfortunately.

I think the copper was talking crap.
Do the tips extend past the end of the bumper?
I wouldn't worry about the height of the Y pipe they are not going to crawl under your car to measure that, unless you were driving like a absolute dick head and they need to pick you for something. but then they can say anything.
Cannington Performance exaust and brakes are good 94511334 near brian gardners

Torque Fabrication are very good he makes custom exaust's/fuel tanks etc but is in high demand.

That is ridiculous... I've seen worse cars on the road that are on the verge of throwing sparks on the road and nothing happens to them... must be a boring night for them. I wouldn't worry about anything James.
Below car has been gone for quite some time now... blew bottom end bearing and dealership screwed me! Now driving 2008 WRX with ~65k kms on the clock. Only has cat back exhaust and tune by KiDo at the moment! More to come... but slowly!

Purchased recently (12/11/2013), already with: Stage 2 Pedders lowered springs, rear Whiteline sway bar, Advan Racing TCII 18x8 wheels, k&N pod filter, custom 3" exhaust system from turbo back with Magnaflow mufflers. ECUTEK tune of some sort (hopefully soon to be fixed)..... now FIXED!! Now KiDo Tuned!
Added: HID kit, EZ lip equivalents to the front and sides, and various LED treatments, oem boot spoiler, [LGT WRC] plates, GFB Respons BOV for extra Pssscchhh! --> Gone... I couldn't afford it's heart transplant... but keep a look out, as it will come back on sale soon!

Rim size, Camber, Exhaust tips, Y pipe height Window tint.

My Response.

My wheels are 19inch that's fine, my exhaust is a bolt on kit with plenty of other people running in it WA with no problems, Measured lowest point of my car using my Iphone as a bearing which is 115mm, pass. AND THERE A BIG STICKER THERE FROM TINT A CAR SAYING "DARKEST LEGAL WINDOW TINT"

"What you reckon Steve, think we should let him off tonight, Yeah mate, just get that stuff sorted mate"

Cnuts haha

hates it when they pretend to know something they don't... even worst when its obvious they don't know anything as soon as they open their mouths

Do you have coilovers on your car? Do you reckon they put you "on the list"

Exhaust Defect/ lowness "Warning"

Postby Smithyy » Fri May 04, 2012 2:46 pm

Don't worry, doesn't know what he is on about. I've had some winner check over a stock lancer for 10 mins just because I was speeding and he couldn't get me for anything.

They must have been bored or just trying I get you angry, pretty much looking for an argument.
