19th of August should be okay though shouldn't it, getting closer to autumn, shouldn't be too chilly.

As a few other people have mentioned it doesn't have to be a cruise, could just be a meet up at something like Jells park on a weekend with nice weather. Hell I'm just eager to look at peoples cars and see the mods they have done so I can get some info from them about how to go about my own car.
But I'm still eager for a cruise, provided it's not a once off thing for this year and people can't be bothered doing a summer one.
Summer drives are so much better!

Hey Kieran,

You need not look much past Steve's (Sentinel) car to get a good idea of mod heaven! :)

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Aw shucks Mark , thanks mate! :D

Is August good - looks like Ric / teK have a clash??

Fernshaw Run

You need to make an early start to avoid traffic on the Black Spur.

+1 on the Fernshaw option.

I live at "Point A" so it suits me!! :P

So do i hear August the 8th as it suits Ric and Tek?

I'm also a bit worried that snow/black ice could be a risk through there at that time of year. Maybe we should pencil it in for later on this year.

I scouted out some interesting roads we could use to go to Kinglake instead, starting from a Bunnings carpark in Mill Park, which would be nice and empty at 8am on a sunday, and has a 24 hour McCafe nearby ;)

Ric,

I am with you on this one. Back country, mid winter and Donna Buang road do not make for a pleasant day's drive. August is our peak month for snow. I like the alternative route to Kinglake, nice coffee and muffin for breakfast, finish at Kinglake, then I guess we can make our own way home after a nice lunch!

We can always do Fernshaw on Melbourne Cup day! (that is the next public holiday, (pays to plan ahead).

Kind Regards,

Mark.

May i suggest continuing your route Ric through Chum Creek down to Healesville.

This would be going down the road we nearly went up last Kinglake cruise but did the u-turn coz we were going the wrong way!! Awesome road i must say.

Andrew,

Good addition, depending on start time (early is very good, 8-9am, mid morning, 10-11am is not so good), we could stop at Kinglake for morning tea and chat, then on to Healesville for a nice lunch. And then, the best bit is I get to drive over the back of the Dandenongs (via C411, Seville, Packenham) to get home. I am getting into to this one!

I do not think we need to recce this route as several of us have driven this in the previous Kinglake run.

So Kieran,

I will be a confirmed starter regardless of date!

Kind Regards,

Mark.

I made some notes for the first section yesterday (as I drive that way to go visit my MG). I've also extended it up to the Kinglake lookout.

(I actually drove it all to Hurstbridge. There's no speed limit info after that, as I just took the odo distances from Google maps.)

I think the second section through Chum Creek is exactly what we did last year. I was trying to avoid repeating too much of the route, but if we hit it earlier it could be good for another run :)

Wh went down Myers Creek rd last year, whereas i have suggested Chum Creek rd. Both are awesome, but Chum Creek rd is alot smoother and a nicer drive. Both roads finish in Healesville, one before Healesville and pne after Healesville.

I highly recommend Chum Creek rd the boys will love it!

ok, sounds good.
I still think a run up to the Kinglake lookout is worthwhile.
Where to stop in Healesville? will the Beechworth Bakery be too busy?
New route

Doing the loopback on ourselves was a lot of fun. I'm looking for somewhere we can do that earlier in the cruise. Maybe one of the roads around St Andrews. There just needs to be a safe spot for everyone to do a U-turn.

Edit: I found one. The extra destination on this route gives us a 1.4km loopback on ourselves, with a roundabout for the U-turn. It's only 15 minutes into the cruise. :)

Looks like a great cruise Ric, love the loopback so we can wave to each other 8)
Now all we need is lots of people to show up and good weather :?

Is this a liberty only cruise, or can other cars come too? My mate might be interested in coming with his Golf R32....then we would have a police escort

The great Australian Icecreamery in Healesville is THE BOMB. In this weather I would go for their hot dogs and milkshakes which are fantastic.

Looks like they are right next door to the Beechworth Bakery. Both are listed at 316 Maroondah Hwy in Healesville.
Strange that their own website doesn't list that store though... http://www.gaic.com.au/stores.html
