Baw Baw Bash - Monday 8 March

Baw Baw Bash - Monday 8 March

Postby MH3.0R » Sun Feb 28, 2010 2:56 pm

Cruise on Monday 8th March (the Long Weekend).

MH3.0R, confirmed
sh1ft, confirmed
Mr White, confirmed
LibJam, confirmed
vp029b, confirmed

Route will be:

Start: Berwick (Princes Hwy - island carpark, the 2nd one in the main street)
Time: 8:00 am sharp departure

Outbound Route:
Cruise to Pakenham on teh Princes Hwy, then north to Gembrook via C411, Launching Place via C424 & Yarra Junction via B380. Then we turn right via C425 to Powelltown, Noojee, Icy Creek and Baw Baw Alpine Village.

Return Route:
Many variations possible, and dependent on time available. Individuals can make their own way. For me, I will consider a longer drive by heading down to Willow Grove and on to Blue Rock Dam for a photo opportunity. Then back to Willow Grove and in to Trafalgar. Turn right back toward Melbourne but only as far as Yarragon. Yarragon is the target for Lunch. The Red covers that section.

The after lunch section is coloured Green. It is all tarmac to Korumburra and the Sth Gippsland Hwy back to Melbourne. It will follow the route from Yarragon, Cloverlea, Gainsborough, Ellinbank, Tetoora Rd, Strzelecki, Ranceby, Korumburra. Then Sth Gippy back to Melbourne.

Image

Start expressing your interest, but Monday cannot be changed this time as I have commitments for both other days.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Hey Mark,

I may be interested :D

How long do you expect the whole cruise to take?
I would probably want to rule out a gravel bit.
Is an 8am start an option Mark?

Cheers mate

I'll have to give this one a miss; Labor Day weekend is also my b'day weekend so I won't be in a stage to drive. Also have too many other car events that month.

Hope it all goes well :)

Hey Ric,

You been busy creating a map and all. 5.5 hours without any stops! Good to see how long it might take and given that we want to have a lunch break, might be best to shorten this trip up a fraction. Maybe finish at Yarragon for lunch and we cut out all the gravel as well that way. All very flexible.

8am start looks like it might be the go to ensure we finish for lunch at Yarragon. Then you can decide to just cruise the Fwy back to Melbourne or push on to Korumburra via Ellinbank, Tetoora Road, Strezlecki, and Ranceby. Like I said, very flexible and depends how much time we spend along the way for photos and stops.

Please sir, may we have another map! And the main street of Berwick is actually the Princes Hwy! :)

Kind Regards,

Mark.

P.S. This is the map I did, but all roads south of Allambee become gravel, and as I expected, not a lot of interest, so I will keep that secret to myself.

Edit 1: Image removed to avoid confusion. Refer to original post, now edited with the current route and description. Note, not gravel sections in the current route.

Ric,

The Baw Baw on your map is the old logging camp town. You need to stay on the Baw Baw Tourist Road to end up at the National Park and skiing area/carpark.

Glad you aint navigating for this one! :D

looks like a good drive... might be able to make it, depends on when I can get it in for a service (sorely in need of one).

I too vote for no gravel (paintwork and unfamiliarariaritiarty). While we're up baw baw way there's also the Thomson Dam for some (dry) photo ops...

Yarragon is a good stop for lunch (and ice creams).

Will,

Thompson Dam is a much longer trip, almost back to Moe, then north again. I have included the Blue Rock Dam as our photo opp. See updated map and description in the edited 1st post.

Naldo,

We are a going in the wrong direction for Adelaide, and it will only add hours to an already long driving day, unless you are flying into Adelaide on Sunday night or Monday morning. But hope to see you anyway.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Hey Ric,

Can I ask you to remove your earlier Google Map link, otherwise some people may take the wrong turn(s) and end up on the 4WD tracks to the Baw Baw loggin camp!

Don't mind at all if you do an update in line with my new maps posted in the original edited post. :D

Mark.

I already cancel my plan to Adelaide.

So I can come. But 1 thing I want to ask, is there any chance that we go to unsurface roads?

Thanks

Naldo,

With the current route plan, all roads are sealed that I am aware of. I have driven all of these but for the leg from Noojee to Baw Baw. The rest I am confident is all sealed tarmac.

However, if you specifically want a gravel unsealed section, I can point you to one or lead you thru one which has beautiful views of the La Trobe valley looking north toward Mt Baw Baw.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Thanks Mark for the reply.

Well, I just didn't want to play on gravel roads, since it will scratch up my paint.

Thanks for the info. Can't wait for next week.

Cheers
