Next Melbourne meet.

Next Melbourne meet.

Postby Ric » Tue Jul 28, 2009 1:17 pm

Well the cruise was a great success. :D

We should start planning for the next one, maybe aim at four a year, so three months to get our act together.

In the meantime, here's a few dates where a simple meetup might be organised:

CJ1177 will be in Melbourne on Sat Sept-12 while taking the family on a camping trip around Vic and Tassie.

smythie is coming down for the Moto-GP (16-18 October), staying down Frankston way.

Any suggestions about what we could do for them, or just for us?

There was a bit of talk on Sunday Ric.

A few of us were thinking 'The Spurs' could be a perfect next cruise!
For those of you that don't know what 'The Spurs' are, it is basically the
Black Spur and the Reefton Spur which follows through these towns:

Healesville
Narbethong
Marysville
Reefton . . . .and back again!

It is a fantastic drive. Steve and I are thinking of recce-ing it after we get
our tunes done, so i'm more than happy to help organise this one. Here is
a rough map:

How about 8-ish weeks away: September 27?
Cheers
Al

Yeah any time from 8 weeks onwards sounds good Mr White. Spurs are sweet I used to go for a run there pretty much every second weekend. Also another possibility is to the top of Mt Donna Buang which is a really nice twisty drive as well (narrower roads then Spurs though). At the summit is a nice picnic area as well and the view is spectacular.

Spurs are great fun. Weekends in balmy weather usually see plenty of bikes (and opportunistic cops out there in the name of "safety"). Haven't driven them (Audrey has though) but have ridden them a number of times :D

Not sure which day I'll be getting down there for the GP (Thursday, Friday or Saturday) but will be heading up to Bright with a bunch of bikes on the Monday. Would have to be a dinner/drinkies for me I'd say unless a bunch of you are heading to The Island

Hey guys,

You can put me down for the next day out. Hopefully it is not on the same day that my mum comes back from her holidays from oversea's visiting europe and America.

Even the family is getting into it LOL.

Yeah, count me in, even for the recce!

I did the Don Road, Healesville, Marysville, Lake Mountain, Warburton, round trip on the Queens Birthday long weekend. Very windy and more than a two hours of driving. Traffic to Marysville was worse than Flinders St in peak hour. 40-50 kph max along the Black Spur. And could not get lunch a Marysville due to the crowd.

Donna Buang sounds less crowded and we can always cut over to Warburton via the Don Road. Might be a little bit of gravel road, but was pretty good shape last time.

Now about the timing. It cannot be the weekend of Oct 17/18. Any other weekend is good for me. In fact, I think we should try for grand final day. It's unlikely to be a busy weekend on the roads.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Going to the MotoGP? Probably wouldn't be a bad weekend to be out on those roads though. There'll be plenty of cops down at the Island and a much reduced motorcycle presence on the roads up there, particularly Sunday.

That's not really a cruise - that's a long drive on a relatively straight road. Dunno about that. I like the idea, but...

Be even better if we met at a track...
