Sandown Supersprint - updated, Ric wins MG championship

There is an MSCA Supersprint on at Sandown Raceway this coming Sunday. http://www.msca.net.au/
This will be the first outing for my MGA with its own engine since a similar event at Sandown in June last year.

One of the reasons I've not been around much this year is I've been involved in a long and expensive repair of my MGA's engine.
I destroyed it at a Sandown Sprint event last June, when it detonated and one of the pistons disintegrated and sent bits of aluminium through the whole engine.
One cylinder was so badly scratched that just boring it out a bit wasn't an option, so all the cylinders had to be bored & sleeved.
While the engine was at Crankshaft Rebuilders, they found a crack in the crankshaft, and one in the head, and a manufacturing defect in one of the conrods.

So now, nearly a year later, I have:
Block bored and sleeved
New crankshaft
Four new pistons
Four new conrods
Crack repaired in head
Valve guides in head modified to reduce oil spraying out at high revs

In the meantime, a very generous friend loaned me a stock standard MGB engine to let me keep competing (although it was a lot down on power compared to mine).
I managed to break the differential at the end of last year with the borrowed engine (and that event was on grass!)
I had a spare diff, but with a not so good gear ratio, which kept me going for a while, but would limit my top speed on a racetrack.
It would have cost a fortune to buy a new crown wheel and pinion for my diff, so I ended up buying an old rear axle from a wrecked MGB to get another diff with the right ratio in it.
I just crossed my fingers that this used one was in reasonable condition.

So, the rebuilt engine went back into the car a couple of weeks ago, and the replacement diff last weekend. I still have to run the engine in before Sunday.

Spectator entry is free for MSCA events, so if anyone is near Sandown on Sunday, pop in for a look. There's 120 cars from various car clubs going to be running across the day.

I forgot to post back here afterwards.
I took a second off my personal best time at Sandown at this event, doing 1:43.12.
It's the third lap in this session (the first lap is just a warm-up, you cannot pass until you cross the start/finish line):

:)
FYI, we run in car model classes at all our club events, but we're also competing in an Outright competition between all the classes.
With 12 out 14 events completed, I'm leading the Outright points.
I came second outright in 2013, and nowhere last year when I blew up my engine. I've never won it.
The events so far have been:
1: Economy run. 5th (borrowed engine)
2: Motorkhana. 6th (borrowed engine)
3: Concours (not counted in Outright points)
4: Hillclimb. Didn't run, as the borrowed engine was underpowered
5: Sandown Sprint. 11th (first event with my repaired engine back in)
6: Sandown Regularity. 7th
7: Observed Section Trial. Had an awful day, no outright points.
8: Phillip Island Sprint. 10th
9: Phillip Island Regularity. 2nd
10: Macedon Observed Section Trial. 5th
11: Rob Roy Hillclimb. 10th
12: Avalan Khanacross. 3rd

Results: http://www.mgcc.com.au/competition/2015 ... ht12.shtml

Phillip Island. I retired early as I had a big oil leak, which turned out to be a badly located rocker cover gasket.

Macedon OST. Very tricky driving at slow speed over a slippery grass & mud course.

Rob Roy Hillclimb. All four runs. A second slower than my best, but still ok.

Avalon Khanacross. I forgot to take the GoPro. Here's another car on the same day who had as much fun drifting as I did, except he ran off the track just before the finish.

Great style Ric, love the pic by Tangcla, it seems like it's hard keeping an older car like the A in good form?

Just a small update.
The last event was on Nov-15. It was a motorkhana on grass down at Geelong.
It was a little dusty! ;)

I came 6th outright on the day, which was good enough for me to win the year Outright by 3 points.
http://www.mgcc.com.au/competition/2015-outright.shtml

There was a presentation dinner last Friday night, with a "Hollywood Glamour or Character" theme.
Coming in to the last event, I was leading by 6 points, and I made an agreement with the guy coming second that whichever of us won would go to the dinner in character as "The Great Leslie" from "The Great Race". (He ended up coming third for the year, and went as "Professor Fate" from the same movie.)

So here we are, Professor Fate and The Great Leslie:

and me getting the Outright Champion trophy:

It dates back to 1960, so has had bigger bases put on it twice to take all the winners names.
