Calder Park Drags Oct 10th/17th

Postby alexeiwoody » Mon Sep 29, 2014 3:48 pm

Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of the Melbourne crew want to come along to the drags on the 10th or the 17th of October?

Just a casual visit at this stage (perhaps if there is enough interest we can see if we can book a lane?)

Either way it would be great to see some fast libs (and maybe AMGs?) on the night :D

If there is enough interest I may come down on the 10th. Can't do the 17th.

Hopefully that AMG can be persuaded to come out. ;)

Sweet, a fast ford :D And Darren, it would be interesting to see what time your lib pulls up!

It seems like a few of the quicker/powerful lib (and amg) owners will be busy on the day, and some are still finishing off their builds. Not to worry...we'll just have to set great times to make up for their absence :D

Yeah will be interesting to see what mine can run! Just realised I won't be able to do the 10th, but I can do the 17th.

I'm going down tonight. Not sure how well I can launch without a boost gauge, but should be fun :)

Haha thanks Brian,

It was a good visit, but I couldn't quite bring the best of the car out on the strip as only had two runs

For my first ever attempt, sat/idled on off for about 30 mins while registering/trying to suss out what was where, then 25 mins in line, the TMIC got hot. Tried to launch, but may have as well driven off the line haha - 13.0s, 103mph. 91mph by half track iirc

The run cooled my TMIC a bit, but sitting in line for another 15 mins brought it back up. Kept my bonnet open this time. The 'launch' felt quicker but still very slow on video, didn't even get a 60ft reading for either take off (that's how slow lol). Hit fuel cut in 1st, 2nd and a little in 3rd, bad idea letting it shift by itself :) - 12.7s, 111mph with 89mph at halftrack.

Picked up 8mph in the second half from just having a warm over hot cooler :D

I suppose the TMIC really needs less waiting/idling time, and a water spray. Then to actually launch, and shift before it over revs and cuts boost/fuel. Plenty of improvement in it haha and I feel like a noob

Will post up a slow looking vid :)

Wow well done Alexei that's a great time! Should be happy with that especially since it was your first time out.

I'm betting you'll be back the drags are addictive.

Thanks!...it is addictive knowing you have much to improve on :D I don't know if I will be going back, maybe once more sometime.

I was aiming for 116-120mph...

Having said that....I believe it's the fastest TMIC liberty 1/4 run on this forum, so I guess that counts for something

Haha thanks Geoff, the car just makes me look better! I was totally unprepared.

There are some amazing drag cars there...felt like I was driving a Prius

Well done man!!
Why do you have to leave the car running in line? Is there only 1 line that constantly moves? In Sydney there's many lines so while your cars not running you can shut your car off.

Good luck using the paddles to manually shift... I tried it on mine on the strip and i cocked it up royally!!

Thanks! My first run I was like WHAT. Must beat Adam. :D

There were two lines moving every 20-60 secs or so? It was a pretty long line, car on off for 25 mins the first line-up and 15mins iirc the second run. Before I even lined up the first time - faffed about for 30-45 mins driving back and forth (scrutineers, registering, being lost, decreasing tyre pressure for no reason, etc) so it was a good hour with engine at operating temp before the intercooler finally saw some wind.

The fact that I picked up 8mph on an auto doing the exact same thing, was pretty shocking! If I could somehow keep the cooler at ambient temp until it's time to drag, I'm confident there'll be another 5mph in there.

Just means currently the car's faster on the road than it is on the dragstrip...

The shifts I can handle (you're doing great in D!), it's only the 1st-2nd shift that needs some good timing. Just didn't even expect that I'd hit fuel cut from 2nd-3rd, haven't had the chance to gun it like that before, on this setup. The 3rd-4th fuel cut was very minor, just - also didn't expect it - more like adding insult to injury rather than anything  Like a fuel cut sale, buy 2 get 1 free

That's impressive!

It wasn't all that long ago (for the old blokes :) ) when those times involved a car that needed to be trailered to and from the track.
