Driver Education Training &/or Skidpan Instruction

Driver Education Training &/or Skidpan Instruction

Postby bigBADbenny » Fri Jul 12, 2013 10:30 am

I'm making inquiries and also getting prepared for doing a Driver Education Training Course and or receiving Skidpan Instruction.
So far I have a helmet and spare tyres, and my Lib is running reliably, as best I can get it for now.
I'll be adding an extinguisher soon.

I'd like to hear advice and EOI's from anyone interested in doing same within the next few months and beyond.
I've already had a chat with the big fella at RTR about their skidpan with very positive response.

This is in light of my recent experience driving around a 'Roo on the Hume at 110 (and surviving the consequent fishtailing somehow), but more urgently in response to a recent spate of accidents and near misses, being experienced by our forum members, all over Australia.

Whilst the Liberty is a very safe car, making modifications to various or all aspects of the stock cars setup and power delivery is a particularly bad mix when inevitably coupled with an inexperienced driver.

Please contribute, this will be of some benefit to all members, their families and friends and the general public.

For sure, I'll look into that.
I think to begin with the basics, with less commitment as regards time and money would suit me more, and maybe work up to a DECA weekend.

I had a chat with the RTR big cheese about it, they have contracts with major logistics companies for driver control training, to that effect they have an artic trailer setup with huge outriggers so jackknife and similar maneuvers can be practiced in a safe & repeatable environment. It's... PRO

Thus keen to see what they can offer us.

Here is the post on their facebook page, but no location. I read somewhere else that it's in Laverton somewhere.
There's no mention of it on their website.... http://www.roadtrackrally.com.au/store/

But any skidpan would be great, anyone done it? What was good about it? Would you do it again?

I've done it twice when I lived in sydney. Once in my evo and once in a silvia. I wouldn't do it again in an awd car..rwd is a lot more fun

And what advice do you have as regards driver instruction?
I'm pretty sure I need to review some of the basics (like my clutch technique) before even moving onto the advanced stuff.
