EOI: Winton Trackday April/May 2012

Postby RX_MY02 » Mon Oct 31, 2011 1:26 pm

Hi Peoples

I have been looking into organinsing a track day at winton some time next year. At this point it is an Expression of Interest to see if i can rally up enough numbers to get this off the ground.

I know a couple of the guys who go to SWINGN's track day are interested but we would need more participants from south of the border.

At this stage there is no specific date set other than im looking at late april/may and am open to any dates. I have spoken to Winton they have most mondays and tuesdays open at the moment and limited saturdays and sundays.

I was thinking of having the day on a monday so that us north of the border can travel down over the weekend.

This day will be open to anyone from any state if they are interested.

So if you are interested please state ur intention and if you have any specific dates around this time that you would prefer.

Cheers,
Joel

quite expensive depending what you wanna do...

Tampered was
$160 fee to them
$50 for licence
$150 for petrol

Plus
Service before track & service after track
Have to do all your fluids (bleed breaks etc...)
$$$ for helmet
and all the shit you need to do to the car before track day!

A lot of the costs for track days seems quite high as an initial outlay but if you continue to attend events the cost is amortised.

1. Buy your own helmet. I think they last about 3 or 4 years before you are meant to discard them. Standard <$200 job from motorbike shop will do it.

2. License lasts a year, AASA gets you into most events and is cheaper than CAMS. Shannons gives you a discount for having a CAMS license though, so it really pays for itself. Club membership also lasts a year, I found Skylines AU to be the cheapest at $50.00/year renewal and they are open to all types of cars.

3. Engine oil I put fresh in before the event but no particular need to change it afterwards unless you exceed about 120degC For mineral or 130degC for synthetic which is when they start breaking down.

4. Brake fluid put fresh in before the event and depending how it goes do not necessary need fresh fluid afterwards.

5. Might want to spend money on extras such as shoes, gloves, etc; up to you. I find Converse Chucks low rise are about as economical and functional as they get. Fantastic track driving shoe and serves rest of the time as a great power weight lifting shoe :D.

Items 3 & 4 I do myself. Don't need to use astronomically expensive fluids. So maybe $60.00 all up plus a couple of hours labour leading up to each event.

So on top of those costs you have event fee, petrol, accomodation (if any), and that's about it.

After taking into account wear and tear on powertrain, tyres, suspension, sometimes I wonder if Go Karting is more cost effective

The exact cost wil depend on how many people attend.

For 36 people the cost will be ~$210ea
For 42 people the cost will be ~$180ea
These costs include timing.

You've already got me on the list, so you know I'm interested :)

For those who were talking about requiring a license etc, my suggestion would be to join a car club. Would suggest JSCC (http://jscc.asn.au/) as their membership costs are next to nothing... I've joined up recently (Have heaps of friends that have been members for awhile) & for 3 years it's $95.00. Then you can get a CAMS license which will enable to go to just about any track &/or event in Australia, which costs approx $95.00 per year... Plus if you're insured through Shannons, you get a 5% discount on your policy ;)

How many is "quite alot"?

I would prefer to have th majority from this club but i need to get numbers to make it reasonably affordable to make it worth while.

Cheers
