Next cruise

Let's get the ball rolling while the last one is still fresh in everyone's minds.
One thing a few people mentioned today was, should we consider an overnight cruise?
We could start mid-morning on the first day (instead of crack-of-dawn), and get well away from Melbourne, then we'd all be in the right place for an early-ish start the second day.
You could then do something like this:
Day 1: Melbourne to Bright. 315 km, 4 hours. (or even twistier alternative: Healesville, Eildon, Jameson, Bright. 350 km, 5 hours 32 minutes, which includes this road )
Day 2: Bright, Mt Hotham, Omeo, Bairnsdale, Noble Park. 488 km, 6 hours 31 minutes

Obviously you'd do this in summer, when the Hotham Rd is open and dry. :)
You can't avoid a few stretches of boring freeway, but it lets you get to some nice out of the way roads that we'd normally never be able to reach.

Alternatively, post some ideas for just a day cruise around Melbourne if you know some good roads. Check out the routes we've previously taken at viewtopic.php?f=34&t=14074
We could also do one of them again, as many didn't go on those cruises.

You can also comment here about what length of cruise you like. Today's was the longest we've ever scheduled.

As I put idea out today. Would there be no interest in meet up with Sydney guys? Would be good to put a face to a few names. With that being said it woudnt be an overly exciting drive and get to a mid point within reasonable time would take forever unless took fwy/hwy.

Melbourne to Colac and then the twisties through the Otways to stop at Apollo Bay overnight, great pub and easy accomodation to be had.

Lazy morning with some great breakfast and photos and then a drive back along the Great Ocean Road.

Would be a great road to drive, but constantly clogged with other cars during any weekend over the summer months... :(

Count me in please. I like the proposed routes, and specifically the twistier leg via Jameson. Any idea on dates?

Could I have an indication if people prefer a one-day, or two-day cruise?

I'm thinking maybe between Christmas and NYE for a 2-day one.

There's certainly a lot more organisation involved in a 2-day one, and we'd need pre-commitment to organise some accomodation.

I'm easy, just like to see what likely participants would prefer. :)
