Australia Day Cruise - CANCELLED, but then again...

Postby MH3.0R » Mon Jan 17, 2011 7:29 pm

Hi fellow cruise seekers!

Anyone up for a cruise on 26 Jan?

Depending on numbers, I am thinking Baw Baw or Donna Buang or Mornington Peninsula. Mid week, not a long weekend so not many valid excuses for not attending! :)

We already have good routes picked for all of these cruise (just scroll back through previous maps during 2009 and 2010), all on tarmac (with a slight modification to the Donna Buang one).

If you have a preference, please indicate your route. I don't mind any of them.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Hey Mark, I might be interested.
Will have to see how things pan out next week.

I'm a huge fan of the route we took on the August cruise (I love the kinglake road) and I have my own route which can lead us in to healsville eventually, and then from there we could head up Mt Donna Buang or something?

But of course it all depends on what I'm doing next week, also weather (if it's raining hard I wouldn't be bothered)

Sorry guys, I'm out. The MG club is running the first competition event for the year on Australia day.
I'm looking ahead to maybe organising something on the Labour day weekend, March 12, 13, or 14.

And this is the route I am keen on taking.
As for where to go after we get to Mt Donna Buang, I don't know. Could loop back around fernshaw back in to healsville and then just take Maroondah Hwy back home?

Looks good. :)
If you follow this route, there's a very good chance you'll pass a stream of MG's going the opposite way on Myers Creek Road! ;)

Ok for the main part of the route, but there is a gravel section of road on the Don Road just after the intersection with M Donna Buang Rd, and we know about the gravel section of Donna Buang Rd. No objection from me on the gravel, but may be from others! There is also a gravel section between Mt Donna Buang and Marysville via Ferntree. We could always take the more southerly route between Healesville and Launching Place, then Warburton to Donna Buang. Back via Warburton and that would be enougn for me. Others could contine on the Reefton, Marysvile, Black Spur, Healesville but it would be a full day. At the end of the cruise, I like to drop in to a coffee / carwash place and pamper my ride. Especially after any gravel sections. :)

Any good recommended starting points, Bolero's Cafe or the Bakery? Starting at the roundabout might attract unwanted attention :D The timing for me needs to be early, say 8am departure. That means a 6:30am departure from home to get to the start point for breqakfast (coffee and bakery....Mmmmm).

They will be spread out, as they are following navigation instructions, not doing a cruise.
I'd guess they will start about 8:30 and continue to 10:30, as they're leaving from Narre Warren continuously from 7:45 to 8:30, and taking a round about route.
They will also be driving very sedately, as they are doing an "economy run" ;)

pffff, 6:30 is luxury. I have to leave home at 5:30, to meet up with the guy I'm navigating for in Chirside Park at 6:30, so we can be down at Narre Warren by 7:30.

I'm not driving my own car, as the gearbox is STILL in pieces :(. Have to be there first thing, as my driver is also chief scrutinner, so he has t be there first, and leave last.

Yeah no way am I doing gravel. (again :angry2: )
Whichever way there is no gravel I'll go :D

For the starting point, There are a couple of options with big car parks nearby. Like down Webb street, towards the river side.
As for recommended bakery's there I really don't know, too many hippies in Warrandyte  (jk)

Towards the other side of the round about (not crossing over the Yarra) there are a lot of other big bakery's/cafes and car parks too, so I can do a drive-by  today and see what's decent.
Problem being of course that it will be a public holiday, so who knows what will be open or at what time. Although I think a lot of people go to Warrandyte by the river on Australia day so I'm sure some things will be open.
