 I made sure I didn't use the word surgical Sentinel

I must say though, it's almost heading toward being a deserted shopping centre, multi-level car park though. Not sure what amount of power and lighting we'd have in something like that but it's gotta be close.

Even the underground car park at someone's work. That'd work pretty well, and most of them are level with ramps up and down, which gives a good layout for what we want.

* BUMP *

After some door knocking on the weekend on the cruise, I thought I'd bump this again to see if we can find a place to do it.

Time to get a bit more serious.

I'll be happy to assist if it is required... as for a place to do it, how about a public undercover car park? Just need to find a nice quiet one... :)

Also, I wrote this under the audio section, if anyone is interested....

I've just recently done the sound deadening (MY07 Liberty 3.0RB)... and had great results... I used the JayCar sound deadening material, which is basically bitumen adhesive. My hands are very sore now... but well worth the task - which took about 3-4 hours to complete.

I had done this on my previous car and previous previous car (MY04 Liberty GT & MY00 Liberty B4 RSK), all with slightly different setups.

MY07 - Did the outer door skins (F & R) and the closed up all the holes on the inner door skin. Also, reapplied the stock door skin more "tightly" to the door itself for a better seal.
MY04 - Only did the major holes on the inner door skin, both F & R
MY00 - Did the COMPLETE car... whole floor panel (all seats removed), rear parcel shelf, trunk/boot and inner door skins

I have done this, not so much for the audio improvements, but more so for reduced road noise. This is my first experimentation with doing the outer door skins, which I have been quite impressed with.

The door now closes with a great "thud" that you would find in very expensive European cars and when you go and tap the door skin, it no longer feels tinny...

In terms of road noise, I have lost a lot of wind noise and a bit of tyre noise at speeds... when the car is a stand still, there is an eerie silence in the car (engine on or off... the H6 seems to help as it is such a smooth and quiet motor as oppose to the GT and B4), as it seems block out any outdoor environment noises.

Generally noise is lower and it feels like the cabin is more "cocooned" from the outside environment.

In terms of audio controls, my setting use to be: Treble +5, Mid +1, Bass +2
Now they are: Treble +4, Mid +1, Bass 0 (sometimes -1)

I'm quite fussy with my audio output and always seem to change volume and sound settings. Seems to happen less now since the change... sometimes I even drive without music, just to enjoy the quietness of the car now :)

Anyway, highly recommend this to anyone...!

In terms of what I've learned in doing all 3 cars:

MY07 - probably had the best reduction in noise. After doing some research, people have pointed out that the outer door skin do let in a lot of road noise as I've seen in doing the door skins.
MY04 - The least effective in terms of eliminating road noise. Improved audio quality, it concealed the door.
MY00 - spend almost a whole day in doing this, and was very happy with the results at the time. It gives the car an overall solid feel, eliminates any squeaks you may have. The car is also warmer for longer during the winter and cooler for longer in the summer. Road noise is greatly reduced, but a lot of work is required to do this!

Saw your post in the other thread Dave, certainly similar to what I've found.

Any assistance on the workshop day would be greatly appreciated, focus training groups once some discussion/theory is out of the way would make life a lot easier.

A car park was discussed, but it's the 'clean' nature of it that makes it hard, let alone the weekend aspect.

Oh... and I have to mention...

The sound deadening the outer skin also helps prevent shopping trolley dings... it reinforces and makes the outer panel much stronger, making it less susceptible to those nasty eye sores... :)

So if anyone is planning on doing it, get any dints removed before embarking on this... because it'll be mighty hard to remove dints once the sound deadening is in place...!

I know I am only new here, but depending on how many people are in, I might have a place in Glen Waverley

Under cover lock up garage, smooth concrete, dead flat but max 14 cars (allowing for all doors wide open - 2 regulation car parks per person). Only option is Sunday, but all day should be fine.

It would take some checking though, and any tar bits left on the floor would DEFINITELY have to be cleaned up.

:o :o

Bennygsr, you're instantly all our new best friend!!!!

That facility sounds perfect. Sundays are acceptable, as is the timing.

The small fragments of left over deadener can be the responsibility of each owner as they do some deadening, so that's pretty easy, and honestly, if you're careful with the trimming of deadener, you can contain that a lot.

14 cars is a good number too! How's the lighting and power access?

EDIT: It's also worth noting that if Benny comes through, his car will be the free build car that I'll teach from and predominantly do. ;-)

this sounds interesting :) I noticed after having the windscreen replaced (stone chip ~5cm in from the top of the screen directly in front of me) that there was more noise, so I'm in for trying to deaden as much as possible.

If I was still at my old job i'd have a basement car park that I might have been able to borrow :(

Should be able to drum up some funds to be able to cover the cost of materials.

I need to check the lighting and power access.

I will hopefully have some more info this week, and pretty pumped about maybe being the demo car!

My work car park on Springvale Road Glen Waverley is all GOOD and ready to go. As I mentioned - Sunday Only and 14 cars is the ideal max. Could possibly squeeze 2 more in, but it would leave no room for exiting.

I can only see one power point, and lighting is similar to a reasonably well lit section of Shopping centre parking - in other words, we are probably going to need more. Daisy chaining a shit load of lights around the area won't really be too much of an option, but I am no expert in this field. I'll get some photos so you can see for yourselves.

Does this mean I don't pay for sound deadening either ? :P  :P
