How are they quality wise say compared to a $150 Uniden unit?

Also wouldn't the line of cars with cb's 'repeat' the signal

Cheers

Not sure. I haven't seen one in the flesh yet. "Digitech" is Jaycar's home brand. I have the older 3W model, and it works fine.
Probably similar quality to my 2W Uniden.

Also wouldn't the line of cars with cb's 'repeat' the signal

Only if they all have radios, and diligently repeat the messages.
I'm often speaking directly to Mark in the last car to check we haven't got too far ahead, but he runs an external antenna like me. :)

Hi Ric,

Please put me down as confirmed.
Also interested in getting a 2-way radio if there's enough interest.

Is she coming? There's some nice scenery at Macedon and Trentham, and there's at least three other women coming. :)

I would love to make this my first cruise, but it clashes with the Philip Island Classic.
At least I will still get a car fix that weekend!

Ric wrote:Remember, it's a good idea to bring along a CB RADIO if you have one!

There's some previous discussions about radios at viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12789 and viewtopic.php?f=22&t=5744

Note: Jaycar seemed to have dropped their DC1060 radio.
Current range is:
5W 80ch $149 http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=DC1065
2W 80ch $100 http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=DC1049

I wouldn't consider anything below 2 Watt.

If there was enough interest to buy 5 of the DC1065 model, I could get them for $120 each.
The detacheable antenna is useful, as it lets you connect an external magnetic antenna for much better range.
i.e. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=DC1064
I've used that on the last few cruises, and no scratches on my roof :)

I bought A $30 pair from Aldi, eighty channels and charging dock that I use for camping. They seem very similar the the discontinued Jaycar ones and work quite well.

If there is enough interest after lunch at Ballan, we might do what was originally planned for leg 2 of the cruise in 2011.
(I took a wrong turn, and missed Anakie, and Granite Rd.)

Route 127 km, 2 hours 23 mins
Ballan, Egerton, Meredith, Steiglitz, Anakie, Little River, Werribee.
