Exhaust Shops - Canberra

Postby raulv » Mon Sep 24, 2012 4:54 pm

Hi Guys,

Any recommendations for exhaust shops in Canberra? I am just about to order a cat back and wanted to know if anyone had recommendations for a good place to get it installed?

Cheers,

Raul.

Thanks mate. A friend recommended him as well but his website made no mention of exhaust work. I'll give him a call tomorrow.

Mick at Techworkz has a good reputation for being the local Subaru specialist and he'll be able to install the exhaust.
Otherwise, I've been getting my exhaust jobs done by Roy at Powatone in Fyshwick. He's a great bloke and will definitely look after you.

I've also heard good things about both places.

If you aren't getting one custom made it's only a couple of bolts anyway.
If I can bolt a turbo back on at home with no prior experience any mechanic should be able to do it.

what did you get done at powatone Nathan? Im aiming to get a dump pipe soon but not keen on forking out 700 for a piece of metal....

I installed my catback myself, took a couple of hours, was kind of a pain but like rooby said its only a couple of bolts... Id rather not pay someone to remove and replace... imo :D

I'm right with you there mate! At the time, all my tools were at my parents place in QLD so I couldn't do it myself :(

I got the X-Force 3" mild steel dump pipe and stainless steel 100 cell race cat, welded onto separate flanges.
All up I paid $700-750....it was $350 for the 3" catless dump pipe and $250 for the 100 cell cat, + $100-$150 labour...can't remember exactly.

I was aiming to spend less than $700 FITTED but that didn't happen. I could have gone cheaper by just getting the X-force catted dump pipe, which are apparently 300 cell cats...but, for the money I spent, I have the highest flowing catted system, since manufacturers usually use 200cell or 300cell cats.

Here you can see what was done :)

Yeah that's decent for everything you got... It seems that people charge a premium for a dump to fit the td04hla my car has... Can't find anything for less then $900. It's cheaper for catless but I'd rather have at least one...

Yeah my model dump pipe can be sourced from 08+ WRX or 09+ Foresters, so they are cheaper than twin scroll dumps because they make more of them I guess. Powatone does a fair bit of custom work too, you can see pics on their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Powatone- ... 50?fref=ts
Have you considered getting a custom made dump with a cat integrated in? I was quoted by Roy at Powatone around $400-500 for the dump pipe to be made up, and just buy the cat to put in (extra 250 for a 100 cell).

Aww cmon, my Phat dump pipe with cat was a mere $940 :air_kiss: Looks so good I wanted to mount it on the bonnet but alas decided performance would be better when stuffed under the car.

Got my stainless X-force cat back system for $850 (no fitting) from Queanbeyan Brake & Exhaust which was pretty cheap compared to most other places. The guys at Powatone wanted to build a complete system from scratch and talking around $2K

If you're northside the guys at Roadway are very helpful with any metal pipework - exhaust or intake. Belco pride :D

If its not too late Fyshwick exhaust is recommended. They made my 3" centre pipe. Good job. Good blokes.
