Hey mate, really comes down to how confident you are with your ability, people say a machine will give a better end result, but you then need to justify the extra money to buy one. You also need to be careful as you can easily scratch the paint if not used correctly.

Personally I have used both machine and hand polishing, I prefer to do it by hand as I can feel and work the paint better. My customers also really like me putting in the hard yards on a 10-12 hour job, sweeting it up to get that mirror glass finish for them.

If you do choice to buy a machine, I would say to practice on a older car or a window at home, just to get a feel for what's going on.

Okay thanks for that, might give hand polishing a go on my dads car and see what it does.
What sort of product do you use for that, like some sort of Meguiars one?

Also if you think machine polishing is a better result, why not spend 10-12 hours detailing a car and using a machine polisher so you can make the car better? Seems kind of silly to not do it if you have the tools for it. I don't care how much my detailer sweats, as long as the car looks good and he's not over charging me for wasted time using an inferior method that's all that matters to me.
Just a thought.

Oh sorry, worded my other post wrong,

I personally think hand polishing gives a better finish :).

The general thoughts of other detailers is that machines are faster and give just as good if not better finish.

Starting with hand polishing is a good idea. :).

Meguires ultimate compound is a great product to start with, removes small scratches and swirl mark, could then go over it with Meguires ultimate polish to get that deep wet look and finish it with any of the wax's, meguries has a few. I use ultimate gold or next gen 2.0 when using a Meguires wax.

You should be able to get those three products (ultimate compound, ultimate polish and one of the wax's) for around $100, they will last you a while though :).

Pm me if you would like some help with how to apply each one of those products, would be happy to help you out :). There are a few paint prep things that help give you an even better finish.

Like any work. The better the prep, The better the final results :).

I might have missed it but what wax do you use??? I've been using P21S for the last 12 months or so and have found it fantastic.

Swissvax Mystery! Very nice. I've always wanted to try Swissvax Crystal Rock but I don't have a spare $1,500. Perhaps a group buy of a single tub will make it a bit more affordable LMAO!

Love the thread Taylor!

Can't wait to drop off the car on Tuesday to get her done so you can work your magic.

p.s. 350Z coming your way soon, and hopefully the Porsche Cayman (spoke to owner today), he is just trying to figure out his schedule over the new few weeks to get time to drop them to you :).

Cheers Rob, what colours the 911? As I've got a white and black boxter spider in a few weeks to. So they should look good together :).

If you have have found hand polishing better then using a flex machine created specifically for paint you need to work on your technique or change products.

What pads, polish, steps, working time, area did you do?
