Where to buy a new engine?

Here's where you can ask for suggestions what MODs you should consider. Let the experts tell you what you should add.

Where to buy a new engine?

Postby bambi » Mon Jul 19, 2010 11:27 pm

From what I can tell, the 2.5i NA MY07 Libs have got next to no grunt. I can tell this from a) driving my car, b) looking on this forum. I can tell that I'm going to get frustrated when those little Toyota starlets are 300m infront of me in a 150m race, which is why I am starting to look at upgrading my lib's engine to something with a bit more...oomf.

Looking around on the forums, it seems that with the countless list of mods that can be done to the standard 2.5i NA engine, they are all very expensive and result in minimal performance gains (also reflected in an reply e-mail from MRT Performance), which is why I thought to simply replace the engine. Simple enough right?

I know I've opened a massive can of worms here about which engine to buy and the installation of it, but I'm looking for suggestions on a good one that will fit, OR whereabouts I can pick one up.

I was musing (and dreaming) about a 2.5L GT Turbo. Comments?

Ah the good ol 2.5i buyers remorse ;)

If you're after straight line performance you've bought the wrong car. Best to cut your losses now and sell your car then buy a GT before you pour tonnes of money down the drain on a car that will ultimately be impossible to sell.

Even if you get the GT engine in there, along with all the electronics etc, you'll still have a weak gearbox, open rear diff, smaller brakes.

On the other hand if you want to go fast around corners then the 2.5i has heaps of suspension mods potential.

Is yours manual or auto? My 5MT is more than zippy enough in the corners and it is only the straights that it runs out of power.

Like Tek said.

And still if you go through with the transplant youll still have a 2.5 NA body. Save your pennies and then buy a GTB. or sell your car an buy a preface lift gt

agreed. i was in the same spot.

bought a 2.5i, loads of fun on the track, got murdered on the road.

sold it, bought a GTB. cheaper than getting an engine transplant.

it's not just the cost of the engine, but u basically loose all resale value by doing so.

Yes, I did, but I didn't really have anything to compare it to, or enough room to open her up. I was mainy punching it through the roundabouts, which is does with ease.

I looked into this option. End of the day, the car would still be classified as a 2.5i. So resale value would be the same as a standard 2.5i. Also, with the price of fitting the turbo and assosciated parts, it would be almost the same to sell and buy a GT/GT-B, which in the long run would work out better.

That's what I'm thinking of doing. Just made a trip to the bank today to see how they feel about me selling and getting a new car. All seems very complicated :( I think I can do it, just got to find the right car for the right price. Can't tell now whether to try and get a GT lib or settle on a hot rex.

It's hard to go from a liberty to a rex. The interior seems like they are made from two different companies.
The impreza to me just cheap rattly plastic comapred to the Liberty...

Keep your car save money whilst your only using a 2.5 engine and buy a GTB in a year or so...?

+1

Be happy with what you have an accept what is it, otherwise look at upgrading to something that is (Or at least closer) what you want.
