What performance route to go?

Postby legacydan » Wed May 19, 2010 12:29 am

So currently trying to decide on what order i should do my power mods in, which are need at this stage and which can wait.

Car is fairly standard performance wise with Ecutek remap to local fuel, K+N panel filter and aftermarket cat back system. Trying to find a aftermarket down pipe to free up a bit of power, probably stick in a better fuel pump too. after that im not sure what i should go for. I have heard standard TMIC is good or about 300whp but if you upgrade that now would you see the full benefits after a remap or it not needed at this stage.

Is there any bolt on twinscroll turbos that would be a step up from the TD04HLA that would be able to use the standard downpipe/uppipe setup?

get a full 3" tbe exhaust and a proper dyno tune to compliment your ecutek flash tune would be my starting point.

then if your looking for more power i would upgrade your turbo to something bigger , going to a twin scroll you probably will need to change your sump and your headers as these wont fit with the tdo4 setup from what understand plus you will lose your boxer note. a fuel pump upgrade is good nsrance.

Lots of other hybrid turbos outh there. perhaps a TD05 with a 20g exhaust housing seem to work wonders and you could always upgrade the TMIC to a bigger unit if needed.. i dont think heat soak will be an issue like in australia.

what grade fuel you tuning too.. 91 or 95 octane.

hey i already have twinscroll in mine with the standard equal length headers so no boxer loss there! it standard jdm model with TD04HLA twinscroll.

Already have cat back exhaust so just need to find a dump pipe to fit that. Currently tuned to 99 octane. think ill try get the max our of setup with standard turbo for now, and hopefully that will keep me happy!

gotcha & understand,

a proper exhaust from turbo back and tune should net you another 20-25 kws.

upgrade the fuelk pump a t the same time for insurance.. there willbe no need to upgrade injectors or TMIC

you will still be within the limits of their capapcities.

a little more boost & timing will be the go.

I would've thought an IC would be additional insurance, anything that reduces your risk of detonation is a good thing.

Short answer - not with standard turbo bracket, dump & up pipe
