Question about mufflers for my10GT

Postby subarugt » Fri Mar 05, 2010 9:07 pm

If changing the mufflers tip would it have any effect on performance? making it faster or slower? Or it just making different sound?

changing just the muffler = no more warranty?

Anyone know where I can get a twin tip muffler that look like AMG or GTR? and would it fit on the GT? Need a good one but not a loud one. Don't like noisy cars but the stock muffler for GT looks really ugly.

No. No. Slightly different sound. Very slightly.

Unless they can prove changing the muffler was the direct cause of whatever failed, warranty still alive.

Are you simply wanting to change the tips for appearance or were you after noise/performance as well? If simply for appearance, most muffler shops should be able to custom make a twin tip for you. Alternatively you could get something like this

It offers a twin tip appearance but still retain the stock muffler and its single outlet, without the need to change to a new dual outlet muffler. Otherwise if you're after more noise/bit of performance, plenty of JDM mufflers out there, or the cheaper alternative is your local muffler shop who can custom make you something using universal fit mufflers.

I've always been a fan of Remus with their square-ish twin tips and awesome note. I wouldn't mind fitting a universal fit one if only the tips would fit in the rear bumper.

I really like the AMG and GTR 35 style muffler but I don't think it would fit the rear bumper.

Yes I just want better looking muffler and a little bit of sound not too much. I've seen many cars on road with custom muffler their sound are very bad and loud.

What do you suggest? I do think the stock GT muffler looks pretty bad and the sound isn't too good either. But it's very quite I like it but I don't know it's just very complicated feeling.

I went to a muffler store today. Look their muffler tips seems quite heavy. So now I start looking at carbon fiber muffler.

Do you think this would fit MY10 GT?

they have more products here.

which one do u think is the best for my10GT?
this is the muffler and not just the tip right? would this have effect on performance?

I'm guessing that rule against noisy cars is no longer? You aren't going to get anything near quiet with a canon muffler. :P

Honestly, is weight really that big of an issue? Unless you're planning to track the car and every single kg counts, I'm sure the extra 5-10 kg from a non-CF muffler won't effect performance all that much. Besides, more weight (as well as a bigger size) means more packing internally, which makes for a quieter experience.

I far as I've seen, no CF tips. But if you're concerned about weight, you should get titanium tips. The only company I know that does them in quad tip format is K2 Gear. Otherwise there are probably other companies that sell titanium tips as a large tip on each side. Contact Phat GT to get JDM ones.

You'll be hard pressed to find a shop that does this as any modification is YOUR decision. The shop should guarantee the product they are selling and installing though, but can hardly be expected to be responsible for any manufacture warrantee's that are voided by doing so. For example, if you change your exhaust tips and they are improperly installed and they burn marks in the bumper, then i'd be going back to that shop for a resolution as Subaru are not going to fix that under warranty as the tips did not come as OEM. Alternatively, if you have a problem with the headlights (for example - completely unrelated) Subaru would have to prove how you changing the 'exhaust tips' lead to the headlights having a problem for them to not cover the issue under warranty. So if the problem is unrelated to the modification you have made you should have no problems with your warranty. It is only a problem when you get to 'grey' areas such as performance upgrades. Eg if you tune the car up and it is clearly producing alot more power, and then your transmission fails -then Subaru are not likely to cover that under warranty as it is likely the extra power produced caused the failure... get it?

If you ever get to hold an OEM muffler in your hands you will very quickly realise that almost all aftermarket mufflers will be smaller and lighter than OEM. If you are worried about the weight of exhaust tips you have definitely bought the wrong car!! Liberty's are hardly the lightest car on the road....

If you are looking for something that is light that can be registered to drive on the road i would look at one of these... :P

I would kill for an Atom... almost as fast and fun as a motorbike, but you don't need to dress up like a power ranger to drive one!
