Well I was looking around for subaru's warranty info. here is what I found

Q: Can I fit a non-genuine part to my Subaru?
A:
Fitting of a non-genuine part to your Subaru vehicle during its warranty period would be considered a modification. Therefore, if you have a concern that can be attributed to that modification, then that concern will not be warranted as it is no longer a result of manufacturing defect of a genuine Subaru part.


Q: Are Rattles covered under warranty?
A:
After the warranty period for rattles has expired, Subaru Australia will always consider any rattle concern you may have, if related to manufacture, within the 3 year warranty period. However, rattles that are rectified through general tightening of fasteners are considered a maintenance item after 12 months or 25,000kms (which ever comes first), as they are normally caused by the conditions encountered by the vehicle.


Q: Will using my Subaru in motor sport events affect warranty?
A:
Use of Subaru vehicles in motor sport events is specifically excluded from the new vehicle warranty, please refer to page three of your service and warranty booklet.



Q: Are clutches covered by warranty?
A:
Since the clutch is a wear and tear component it cannot be covered by warranty if it has worn out. However if the clutch is not operating as intended, and it is not a symptom of a worn clutch, the matter would be considered for warranty if due to manufacturing defect.



Q: How will modifications affect my warranty?
A:
If you have a concern that can be attributed to a modification, then that concern will not be warranted as it is no longer a result of manufacturing defect. Therefore, to answer your question the total vehicle warranty is not void, but be aware changes in some system may effect others systems adversely.



Q: Towing vehicles for a warranty concern.
A:
Subaru’s warranty policy does cover towing. If you find yourself in the situation of being stranded due to the need of warrantable repairs, the vehicle warranty will cover any costs involved with delivering your vehicle to the closest Subaru dealer. Please be aware that incorrect towing can damage the vehicle, refer to your owners guide for details.

After I read all that I've come to a conclusion. (if you drive your car = no more warranty)

nah. seriously does this mean If I take the car to a track day or advanced driving lesson then that means no more warranty?

what about the statutory warranty that would be interesting...i just had my LG (rubbish would never buy their products again) hdd recorder look at under this warranty. it is 3 yrs old

Yes there is a difference between statutory warranty and manufacturer's warranty, of which the latter is much more restrictive. Although if you want to claim under statutory you may be up for legal costs.

And no taking your car to the track does not void the warranty, it's only if you have a parts failure relating to the track use/abuse. It does not rule out repairs to items which are a manufacturing defect.

It's worth remembering if the item is 'not fit for purpose' it doesn't matter whether the warrantee period has expired or not.

e.g. defective by design, doesn't work as advertised etc. I had a power supply replaced on a projector well out of warrantee as it was defetive by design.

Document everything. Be polite. Be insistent. Be polite. Send emails to them from your work address if you work at a Television Network

Thus why my car was out of warranty before anything significant was done... I knew major components like the engine etc weren't going to fail, but I wasn't willing for Subaru to wipe their hands of my car as I was having head unit dramas etc.
