Brake Caliper Covers.

Postby jacobraftery » Mon Nov 16, 2009 3:10 pm

Hey Guys,

Im interested in starting to do some modifications to my liberty now that I'm clear of hospital, and Ive got a few weeks of holidays coming up. Im just after some advice to do with 'Brake Caliper Covers'.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Subaru-Impreza-Fore ... 3ef8608a3e

Just wondering if these would fit on my MY03 RX Liberty.
Would you recommend putting them on?
They have two option of application on the ad, Putting them on with screws.. (Unsure about that one..)
And secondly putting them on with a silicone product. Is this advisable?

Just after some schooling from people more knowledgable then myself :triniti: .
Thanks in advance guys.

Seen a few cars on the road with them... They don't look as good as you'd think.

+ it's rice :P

I'd suggest you just paint them red... & you can do it while they are on the car, just be prepared to mask up everything.

+1 the covers will also be of detriment to the pads and calipers cooling down. Better of spending your money on painting your calipers instead.

They look like the super deluxe ones George :P

IMHO if spending money on new calipers I would go for Wilwoods just to have something different and more affordable than Brembo. Plus their silver powder coating or brushed metal finish looks ace :D

With the BIG brake changes you need to contemplate the master brake cylinders capability. Liberty's in general have a much better (read higher) large brake capability.

I'm no expert BUT WRXRW on the Perth WRX forum is a wealth of info on the pros and cons of brake upgrades.

Just be careful that the huge 6 POT front brakes upgrades etc will just "work" and be "better".

There is one side of a car that I won't mod without expert advice - BRAKE SYSTEMS. :)

Totally agree with you, brakes are a modification not to be taken lightly. You should do a little research - it will save you a lot of grief at the end.

Cheers George

Those Wilwoods look good, quite affordable and looks like you may not need to upgrade wheels as minimum size is 17".

The only issues I see is that it has a small surface area, common with a 2 piece rotor, IMO no point having a 6 pot set up with minimal clamping surface area.
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

A mate of mine who posts regularly on Perth-WRX just did a brake upgrade for his 2002 WRX.

Visit KNS Brakes, a NASIOC vendor, who recently bought 12 sets of Prodrive Alcons (Prodrive Alcon Type-B Calipers) and had them on sale for $1499 USD a set!! Joe got his delivered to Perth for well under $2k AUD!!!
