Wheels/Suspension

Postby Laps » Thu Oct 29, 2009 6:03 pm

Just went to ozzy tyres to look at some wheels...

Only found one set I like, except the biggest size they come in is 18's and they have a red ring around the edge, which looks ok, but i dunno if i could live with it... (pics bellow). The guy tried to tell me to put 20s on it, i laughed lol... Anyway $1200 for just the rims is ok, cause I have a mate that owns a wholesale tyre company... The ozzy tyres dude said he will put Kmax (?) springs on the car for like 600 or something... I dunno if these are any good... Anyway, so hard to find good rims i like :( lol..

I dig them hardcore! Maybe I'll look into a set as well. They're pretty much what I've been wanting. Not a big fan of the red lip, but it makes em stand out.

Yeh, pretty much if they were 19s and minus the red lip, they would be perfect for me...

Maybe I should just suck it up and get 18s :(, seems no one makes a good 19 inch wheel these days :(

18s would look better i reckon anyway. Not a big fan of 19s. Plus the tyres increase in price a lot from 18 to 19, and espec if you're already hurting on insurance, the extra cost isnt gonna win you much more brownie points

Insurance isnt an issue. NRMA said I can do whatever I want to the car aslong as it is road worthy... And my premiums wont increase...

Can someone give me an example though of the cost between 18 and 19 inch tyres plz :) How much more expensive is it?

Alex, it all depends on what you're after. While 18's would look pretty nice, cheaper to maintain, and provide more ride comfort, they can't get the WOW factor that come with a set of 19's. But it's a big step for a lot of people. However I must say once you go 19's, you'll never look back.

So if you want more practical and for people to say 'That's pretty nice', go with 18's.

If you sacrifice some ride comfort and dosh, you'll get 'GOD DAMN! THAT LOOKS FREAKIN' AWESOME!' comments.

There is a decent price increase from 18 to 19, Now if your hunting down a good tyre *Example The Dunlop Sports max in 18* they start at $500 or so a corner, So go up with the 19's they are bigger so add the price up, Guestimating $600-650 or more im not into the Money side i just fit the tyres etc

going cheaper tyres might be best for 19's Nankangs/Triangle but they are a horrible tyre. I reckon grab the 18's cause you still get as Jim said the They looking nice. Plus you dont spend as much :)

That's not true, that's the rule of thumb (aka the 'defect rule').

you can go whatever size wheel you want as long as the total diameter (top of tyre to bottom of tyre) is not more than 15mm more than the largest size specified on your tyre placard. It's in the ADRs on the VicRoads website, I think section 9 or 10 from memory.

Oh sorry I didnt explain myself. My mate said when he went to ozzy with his datsun they were like put 20s on it, so clearly they just try sell 20s to everyone that walks through the door

But back to price, if its only gonna cost $100-$150 more per tyre, im down with that... After all, how often do need new tyres lol just a bit worried about how Jim said if i want to sacrifice a bit of ride and comfort... So 19s will be bouncy as hell?
