Had been pondering this for a little while - also for the fact of having a generic OBDII reader so I could access my mazda too... so I bit the bullet and bought the sender unit. $45AU delivered (offered $30US which was accepted) so will let people know in a fortnight if this works!

Keen to see how it turns out Lee! I never got around to buying the sender.

Specifically though one thing I wanted to measure was oil pressure however then I found out there is no pressure sensor installed from factory. Also it may be a pain having this connected full time as then it prevents me from having the phone auto-pairing with my car kit.

If I am very dedicated in future I may just end up installing a regular oil pressure gauge in the cubby hole or something, and have a sandwich plate above the oil filter.

Well got the software working on my phone (Nokia E71) - now just to wait till the OBD interface arrives

Yeah i had a quick look..but the problem is i dont really know what keywords i should be searching for...and i aint going through every application to try find it lol.

The keyword you would want is OBD. It stands for On Board Diagnostics and this is exclusive to cars post 1996 OBDII is the current communication standard, but searching OBD should find you an app

Well the dongle arrived at my work today, but I had my SP23 today no the lib. BUT I tried it out on the way home, and yep, managed to connect to the ECU fine and had the following parameters available:

Intake Manifold Pressure (kPa(a))

Vehicle Speed (km/h)
Ignition Timing Advance for #1 Cylinder (°)

No idea if this list will change for the Liberty (I imagine it may, depending on what Subaru coded to generic OBDII protocol) but pretty pleased that for $45 and a free phone app have all the above available

my only gripe with the app is that the log file is in .csv, however it doesnt use commas! It uses ; instead, so I had to open the log in word, find/replace the ; with , then save it as a different file so I could open it properly in excel. So really it takes and extra minute to open the file, but for free, can't really complain!
