anyone know the thread size and length of the shift knob for the BL5l? because i'm planning on getting an aftermarket stainless steel one.

do all the bl5 share the same thread size and length? if it doesn't, mine is a 2006 BL5 in 5 speed manual.

Aren't most of the after market ones universal?

From what I understand, most after market gear knobs are universal... They come with different sized grub screws, so your pretty much sweeet now matter what car you putting it into

Don't think many people have changed their gear knobs to be honest. I'm running a Momo something (Help me out Jim Boy ) & I know a few guys are running the genuine Subaru / STI replacements (They obviously have the matching thread).

You've got the Momo Combat EVO in chrome, Matt. And yes, usuaully aftermarket shift knobs are universal fit, otherwise their sales would be quite restrictive. Instead of relaying on the thread, size, etc. they simply have different sized sleeves that fit over the shaft, and then, as Matt mentioned, some grub screws to secure the knob in place. I'm running the Momo Combat EVO in CF and it was a breeze to install.

Heh-heh. The Tuned by STi get charcoal trim instead of the silver. Makes the interior look quite classy IMO.

If I had a GT/GTB I would hit up gtspec for that Tuned By STi he was parting out and grab the interior trim.

it shows that most subaru has M12 P1.25 but some other brand such as honda has a different sizing so doesn't that mean all shift knob has all different sizes?

You're right about the different thread sizes but you only need to be concerned if you were putting another "car manufacturer's gear knob" to your Subaru

Naw man. For my one you need a special Universal to Subaru conversion adapter which I have a spare of. It's only $300.

While there are universal fit knobs that fit with the sleeve and screws that thighten around the gear stick (like Momo ) there are others that simply screw on to the gear stick (like the Trust ones) and you have to buy the correct size.

From memory, jap car gear knobs are 3 diff sizes - best way to tell easily is you don't have measurment tools is to go to bunnings and buy some nuts in the different sizes and see which one threads on perfectly.

Just FYI M12 p1.25 was the size on my WRX, if i had to guess, i'd say the GT should be the same.

Not all - like in my previous post the trust/ greddy counter weight knob comes in different thread sizes.
