OBD Multi-Display Meters

Here's where you can ask for suggestions what MODs you should consider. Let the experts tell you what you should add.

OBD Multi-Display Meters

Postby Adrian2627 » Tue Mar 18, 2014 5:23 pm

Has anyone used/is using any of the OBD meters currently on the market? I want a bit more monitoring ability but due to warranty I can't install aftermarket gauges that require fitting sensors/cutting lines etc. Well I can but have to change everything back to stock every time the car goes to the dealer and if something breaks when I'm away from home this may not be possible.

There are a bunch of ODB Multi-Info meters available here in Japan from Blitz, Greddy, DEFI, as well as the usual Android/iPhone set-ups etc but I I'm not sure which way to go. I remember the ECUData scan seemed to work well but is not available anymore. I'm mainly after boost reading but am not really sure if the ECU gives live boost, obviously corrected from MAP/AAP, or just monitors for under/overboost situations.

Went out this arvo and plugged in RR. The ECU records live MAP data in various forms so is it correct to assume that Manifold Relitive Pressure (Corrected) is essentially Boost in it's correct terminology?

I had the Greddy Touch info meter fitted to my car.

http://www.greddy.com/products/electronics/informeter/

It showed 45+ parameter

Boost is well covered by 4 or 5 parameters

Great unit plugged straight into ODB port and lived in my cup holder.

Only down side you need additional hardware to get pressure readings for oil and fuel.

Not sure if these are still available
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

I'm monitoring ODBII boost, corrected speed (from the cars sensors), afr, coolant temp, IAT, using a Torque App, $20 BT OBDII plug and a $50 SGS i9000 android phone running cyanogen.

The phone video is displayed on my factory nav.

Its fast enough, speed and boost have peak hold and I can see what I need at a glance.
It took ages to setup using Tasker automation but now I can export my settings for you.
That phone might even fit in the cubby pod if no nav.

Defi do a very nice OBDII setup, I'll list a few more options soon.

The ECUds was great but generally unreliable and now no support.

BT OBDII Torque start up sequence automated with Tasker.

I haven't checked it out yet but Torque is set to log GPS coordinates, a feature which might be useful at some point in the future ;)

Digging up an old thread here, but I'm interested in getting this sort of setup in my Gen V.

Couple of questions though, when you switch to the aux input to get torque up on the nav, does it cut the audio that's currently playing? How exactly did you run it through the nav, using the factory RCA connections plugged into the i9000's usb port?

Audio is seperate, output is up to what you've selected on the HU (gen4).

Press the Info button twice to display aux video (gen4)

Torque video is displayed via the headphone socket (video and stereo audio out) on the i9000, toggled in advanced settings...the polarity of the signal requires changing from the usual configuration...

Hmm sounds interesting. I might start hunting around eBay for a cheap second hand i9000.

Did you buy any particular 3.5mm to RCA cable, or just a random one off eBay?

Gumtree ftw :)
Just a red/white/yellow RCAs to 4 pole 3.5mm jack.
I used female RCAs to do the polarity swap, just for the video channel as I'm not using the audio from the i9000.

Care to explain this in a bit more detail?

You'll have to read what I posted, google "gt i9000 video out" and experiment.
If you get the polarity right you'll have clear video :)
Samsung doesn't use the std 4 pole polarity eg ground is different or similar...

Hi Ben... So does your car - AUDM presumably, have OBD2 compliance then? My JDM twin scroll doesn't - which makes this a bit tricky... :(

I love what you have done with this system - great job

I did some google-fu, and found what you were talking about. Need to splice and solder one of the connections by the looks of it?

I just ordered one of these which 'claims' to work without modification

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171135460812 ... 1439.l2649

Also, which OBDII dongle do you use? I'm looking to grab one that supports SSM so my options are limited, however these look good: http://www.obdlink.com/mxbt/
