Help my TbSti My08

Postby TomTom » Fri Jun 14, 2013 9:00 pm

First of all sorry in advance if any of my questions seem stupid :( & appreciate any assistance.

Looking to replace a few parts on my TbSti MY08, I discovered the previous owner did a botch repair job on the front lip which i scraped on my steep driveway and sure enough caused a bit of damange to it.

Front Lip:
Ultrex - http://www.ultrex.com.au/subaru-liberty ... p-317.html
STI Aluminium badge - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Car-Trunk-Ba ... 0bc&_uhb=1

Is there a genuine supplier of these lips? Or is Ultrex my best bet?

Grille:
I'm after a Corazon Grille, found a few different ones on Japan Parts but I've seen some chatter to talk to Garage 88. Should I just contact them to sort it out?

If i was to go via Jap Parts I'd like to confirm the correct model for my car as they vary. Their support didn't point me in the right direction either.
http://www.japanparts.com/db/parts_deta ... ARCH_page=

As for painting this would Supercheap or similar car shops sell the Subaru colour code "C6Z" (Steel Silver Metallic)? I can only seem to find touch up pens online.

Wheels / Rims:
I've currently got stock Enkei STi Rims in Silver, I've seen a few black/gun metallic versions I really like.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p41/ ... G_1777.jpg (Looks like Brad sprayed them himself... viewtopic.php?f=20&t=14602)

Is it worth getting the STi gun metallic colour code and attempting to paint them myself, or for a little extra find a shop? I heard the process at powder coating places could take days, so not having a spare set of rims would mean I'm car less.

(Going this process as it's cheaper and the current set are in a decent state)

Audo:
iPhone connectivity! The Aux just wont cut it due to the bad battery life on my iPhone. Use of the cigarette lighter would be the last solution, dont want to consider it though.

Based off: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=16196 I'll be trying out the GROM IPD3.

I'd get a lip from JapanParts if you want genuine, otherwise there are is a US seller on ebay that sells replicas for about $200 delivered. Not great, but not bad for the price.

If you are patient and feel like painting them yourself, it'd be cheaper and at your own pace. Otherwise powder coating would be about $50 a wheel I believe?

I'm after more of an integrated solution, it's sure as hell cheap but i just purchased the GROM IPD3.

I think i'll go down the road of painting them myself, it'll be a good bit of experience and I always like saving some money. I couldn't see any lips available for my car on JapanParts, i'm probably blind.

I contacted Phat about the grille, I should of probably asked about a genuine lip as well.

Talking to Michael @ Garage88 about the grill and a genuine lip. The GROM IPD3 yesterday, plan on picking up some paint for the wheels this weekend. If it wasn't raining I'd install & paint both (the benifit of having a full garage), guess ill be waiting till next weekend.

Shall post installation & spraying pics.

I think it'll be at least 2 weeks until my grill & frot lip arrive, ended up ordering them from Garage88.

Hope to do the wheels this weekend but it looks as though the rain will delay me again, at least I can install the GROM.

smart move..... the sti OE lip is a much better choice, you want a lip that flexes in case you do hit it, most of the aftermarket lips are too rigid.
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

Received my new grill & lip yesterday, plan to install this Saturday.

After installing the GROM I found I don't get any track names/times showing on the display and skipping doesn't work on the dash or wheel controls. I'm disappointed with that considering the cost :? I'll shoot off an email soon as they appear to have a good support team that might offer some good suggestions. Took plenty of pictures pulling everything apart and installing it, it's basic but might be worth a right up. I'm still deciding the best spot to put the box and cord again a job for this Saturday.

Did you get that sprayed silver or did you buy it that colour? All the ones I looked at needed painting so I put it in the "too hard basket" hahaha
