Ideas for my Gen4 Sedan.

Here's where you can ask for suggestions what MODs you should consider. Let the experts tell you what you should add.

Ideas for my Gen4 Sedan.

Postby Jayraddd » Sun Dec 09, 2012 3:05 pm

Hey there.
So I'm sure what I'm about to say has been asked or said alot.. So sorry for repeating.

I have a 2006 5spd Manual 2.5i Safety Pack Subaru Liberty. Everything is stock standard. You can see the car in my avatar.
I plan on keeping this car for a while, that's why I plan on doing some upgrades.
I'm not after massive performance gains.. I know I wont get much because its an NA.
I'm after a super tidy daily driver. I'm on my Opens in 6 months but still plan on keeping this car.

So this is what I plan on doing..
New rims.
Catback exhaust for a nice note.
Possibly intake.
Lower the suspension.
Full sound system.
Front grill.
Plus a few interior upgrades i.e. maybe some vinyl wrapping.
And then once all that is done I will probably get it tuned so it's running sweet.

I guess these a proabably the usual upgrades people do.
If anyone has any suggestions for me, or tips on exhaust/suspension/intake options that would be great.

Being the engine it is I would suggest cosmetic & handling mods.

The list you have is pretty good, although I would not bother with intake. If you want you could get an aftermarket panel filter and remove the airbox resonator. That would have much of an effect but is cheap.

Also, after that, and the exhaust mods, I would recommend getting a tune, which would probably be your best bang for buck performance upgrade (plus you should get a little fuel economy benefit).
You could either go to your preferred local tuner or else get Matt (kido_tuning) or Edward (west_minist) to tune remotely.

I would add sway bars to the list (at least the rear if not both).

That's for the suggestions. I'll look into the sway bar options too.

I found this online.. http://www.bestmufflers.com/bshop/product_info.php?products_id=3680&osCsid=c9af9e840e779b3848a1aba57fc3eac0
This was the kind of exhaust I was considering.

What do yo umean by tune remotely ?

Also what would would I be looking at after a tune ? I read up that its currently 121kw Stock..

Just so you know, your car is a MY07 not MY06. That'll make buying some parts less stressful for you :P

Not really. It's just if you ordered parts for MY06 they may not fit depending on what it is. Where abouts in QLD you from mate?

The 121kw will be at the flywheel.
Generally when you are tuning you deal with kw at the wheels which will be less (in the 90s I believe for a 2.5i).
From what I have read people have generally been getting about a 10% increase in power and torque, but also the drivability & fuel economy are better.

Remote tuning is basically the tuner sending you new files via email. You load them into the car, do some test runs and send some results back to the tuner, they tweak the tune and you repeat until you get the desired result.
I am no tuner though and one of those guys would be able to give you real and complete information.

There is more info around this forum, like:
viewtopic.php?f=63&t=16602
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13414
viewforum.php?f=53

A lot of guys on here have xforce and seem to be happy. Not sure about the 2.5i specifically.

Also, if you acquaint yourself with this page you should be able to find answers to a lot of questions you might have now or in the future. search.php
Or even better, go to google and enter "site:forum.liberty.asn.au " before your search term (without the quotes). Beats the forum search by a mile.

I'm looking at offloading my SPT intake if you're keen. Just going to stick with the stock air box and high flow filter
