I'm thinking of putting a plate under the stock bov to block it off so I can get some flutter or 'hektic dose'. One of my mates who has had a few turbo cars reckons it won't hurt the turbo but most of the forums iv read are 50/50 about it.

Just wanted your thoughts

...why? I think the overall consensus is it is quite ok but I don't know why you would want hectic doseing...

At the stock boost levels it doesn't really matter. I ran mine like that for a months or so when the fmic went on because of fitment issues. It will put 'pressure' on the turbo but one magically blow it up. If your turbo is facucked then it might push it over the edge but it would be on its way anyway.

I actually found my car drove better with it blocked!!!

Gaffa tape is your friend!!! It allows you to easily see if you like it or not and then just put it back to normal really easy!!

It got a new turbo put on it bout a month ago. Second question, is it easy enuff to get at it? I'm not a fan of working on fiddly cars

It's on the passenger side of the TMIC, right on the edge of the engine cover.. I'd be scared fiddling with stuff like that if I were you though

It wrecks compressor wheels....I say don't, espicially if you have a new turbo on it...

For the original question I would say not a good idea. Sure, your car won't explode if you do it but it's there for a legitimate reason.

If you are into sound effects a good substitute might be getting a pod filter like the Cobb one. You will get plenty of induction noise, although it won't specifically be flutter.

Yeah got a k&n cai which is pretty loud but I wanted to hear what the flutter was like

If the compressor wheel is ceramic, like on most stock turbo's I wouldn't.....

You could get an adjustable BOV... Set it up so it takes a bit of pressure to open it up. That way it'll flutter at low revs (low boost) and open normally at high boost. That should eliminate the risk of damage?
