hey guys so i thought i might share with you all, i wanted to change my grill but did not want a carbon looking one, so i thought my grill and DIY it so here is the result.



so what i did is as follows.

took off the grill
on the back there is 3 screws what hold the chrome wing in place.
went to my local hobby store and got a can of Tamiya TS-6 black spray paint. $12.00
sprayed it with a distance of 30cms away, this will give u a even coat
i then hung the wing in my bathroom with the heat lamps on heating the room up.
i did 2 coats in total, on the last coat left it in the bathroom under the lamps for about a hour, just to make sure it sets nice.


you can see in the pic these fins i took off

i then grabed a set of super sharp side cutter from my local Jaycar Store, http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=TH1891
i then cut the fins that run from top to bottom, using the side cutters
i used a stanely knife and heated it up then carefully took the left over plastic pieces that where left from cutting.

The paint is most likely going to be chipped soon.

Yup i have the same thing apart from removing the the little supports and i have some Black Nitto Tape around the lower support in the front bar lol

and i just used el'cheapo Matt black from super cheap with some plastic primer and i did about 6 light coats

I painted mine at first before I made it into a grill mesh
The only problem I found was all the paint started to chip off (as said above) however I didnt use plastic paint. Hopefully urs doesn't chip.

yer ill just keep a can in the boot and touch up on the fly ahhahaha

Ricco, you should try and file those vetical bits dead flat so you can't see them at all

He's not wrong, I used a half decent Matt black spray paint and did 8 or so light coats, looks great at first and now after a couple of days it's already coming off!

Use PlastiDip like I did. Its a rubber based product so it shouldn't chip or flake off.

The black grille looks great on the black! I like how you left the badge chrome as it kind of ties in the headlights that little bit

I used the same vinyl, although I stretched it a bit too much while it was heated so it's come up a tiny bit. But I'll redo it properly.

If the closest shop that sold plastidip wasn't 1 1/2 hours away i would definitely do it!

www.getdipped.com.au will ship cans to you.. but theyre quite bad with emails i hear as i think they just do it as a side thing

They won't ship interstate. I emailed them asking them to post and they said they couldn't do it - yet.
