Rims for my gen3 Liberty

Postby chubbs » Tue Aug 07, 2012 8:12 am

I am looking for rims for my 2000 Liberty. I want to get 19"s but I would like to know what would be the best width and offset so I can get the rims as flush to the guards. Dose anyone know what would be best? Thanks :)

19's may be a bit big? May try 18's and research in to a good offset to get the look you're going for.

Gen3's dont like 19's...You have to remember the rear trailing arm is a marginally longer straight part from the chassis and hence big wheels and tyre can hit it fairly easily.

With 235/40's on a 8.5/44 there was maybe 2mm of clearance to this arm, and it scrubbed its outer shoulders hard...and I had both a 32mm chassis lift and outback springs in (for the drags :) )

These are an 8.5 +38 and if you used a 225 tyre would fit on a gen3 about as flush as possible. They come nowhere near fitting on my gen3 with the 245 R comps which are 254mm shoulder to shoulder...

I could take a pic of one on gen 3 at some stage to give an idea of what that size looks like.

I have 225 on 18x8.5. You get a bit of stretch which will be good for you to get the hellaflush look.

I have 18 x 7.5 +42 with a 225 40 tyre on my Gen 3. There is about 1mm of clearance between the tyre and guard with a full guard roll.

Oh really! Sweet! That's what I'm going for. I will be getting a full guard roll also to get it as flush as possible. Have you lowered yours? Do you have a pic?

I have 18x8.5 + 44 and guards rolled all round. Its pretty close at the rear, but if I wound the camber out a bit I'd get it closer to the guards at the front.

Oh sweet azzo. Do 8.5" fit alright? Do you get any scrubbing? Do you recon an 19x8.5 with all guards rolled would fit?

I do get scrubbing, just on the plastic inner guard. Could easily be fixed by raising the ride height a bit... but hey wheres the fun in that? To be honest, I dont know if they'd fit, but I reckon you'd be pushing it. I think it may create more hassles than its worth just to have 19's instead of 18's. I may very well be wrong, you'd be best speaking to someone who know more than I do.

How low are you planning to go and are you going to run coilovers?

I've lowered my car 40mm with the Pedders sports spring. I've seen people with 19s on gen3 libs before just wanna know what's the best width and offset. Alot of tyre as wheel places I've been to couldn't give me any help they knew nothing.

You can fit 19's as long as you keep the rolling diameter the same as it would be for a 18 inch wheel, so you would need a 225 35 19 or 225 30 19 tyre, which means it isn't going to ride too nicely. Also keep the offset above +42 (i.e. +45 is ideal). You will also need a full guard roll for both rear wheels.
