Suggestions please? Sensible suspension mods!

Postby alessandro132 » Sat Apr 21, 2012 10:34 am

Hi guys,

As we all know, it's only a matter of time before the mod bug bites, and after seeing everyone's cars modified, I thought I'd start and do the same  Nothing major so far, have installed some low beam HIDs and LED parkers courtesy of Leo, but now I'm aware my LCA bushes are f*cked, I am going to get me some JSpeed replacement bushes through Phat :D The only other thing is that I'm not too happy with the rear when I put the car through the twisties, so I am coming to you all for some advice on what to upgrade to allow me to corner flatter without spending huge $$$.

This is my proposed list:

LCA bushes - $320 fitted through Phat
Cusco rear sway bar - $184? http://www.rhdjapan.com/cusco-sway-bar-rear-subaru-50868 - assuming Phat can get it cheaper?

Is there anything else that I'm missing that offers good bang-for-buck as far as suspension mods go? Will it be worth doing the front sway bar too?

I'm definitely not looking at changing out my springs/struts - the billies are firm enough on the multitude of Sydney's shitty roads, so I'll keep that stock :D

Cheers!

Al

Al.
The LCA bushes from Phat are an excellent addition and your definitely on the right track with the rear sway bar. I've read in several threads the Gen IV's benefit a great deal from the addition of a larger diameter sway bar.
The only other thing you could maybe look at would be some decent quality end links for the front and rear.
I looked into these a while ago and organised a group buy on Rallitek endlinks, but there's a heap of different brands out there now to choose from, so shop around.
Then get a decent wheel alignment and enjoy.
Cheers,
Rusty.

Tyres!
Make sure you have a set of good tyres with solid side walls.
Re070's on a stock setup are better than stock tyres with all the sway bars nd shiz.
But at $15-1600 you could do the lca, sways and links for less lol.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, guys! What are the additional benefits of upgrading end links to the sways? Additional stiffness or does it make the whole sway bar more secure and less likely to break?

As for tyres, they're near new (95%+ tread) Michelin Pilot Preceda 2s (OEM 215/45R18s) so I should be fine in that department.

OEM end links have been known to fail when pushed.

Not saying yours will fail, but for an upgrade that costs around $200 it's definitely a worthwhile mod for piece of mind.

Just my opinion, feel free to keep yours OEM.

Cheers,
Rusty.

It was those and the HD mounts that I've been toying with. I won't ever be tracking the car so I might be able to get away with the stock parts (for now ).

Haha, do you have the upgraded LCA bushes yet? Depending on how long you're in Syd and when I get my tasty suspension bits installed by the Phatman, you can have a drive of mine to see whether it's something you'd want to pull the trigger on down the path
