new high beams

Postby JKeep2.5i » Thu Feb 02, 2012 6:47 pm

hey guys,

I'm looking at upgrading my high beams to 'philips diamond vision globes'. They are a after market halogen globe that have a colour temp of 5000k meaning they will match up with my HID's. I want to stay close to OME as close as possible therefore why i want halogen in my highs instead on HIDs, i can always change later :P

the link below is a set I'm looking at buying off ebay;

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Philips-Diam ... 3217wt_966

was just wondering does anyone know the correct size for the high beams globe in a MY04 liberty, owners manual says HB3, this one I'm looking at is mentioned at HB3 9005, IS THIS THE SAME??

Thanks in advance

If the manual say HB3, then these are the ones you need. Pretty happy with mine for the last 1.5 years.

But if Leo was in Perth, I'll be happy to get HIDs now, just not very handy in installing the HIDs myself :roll:

Phillips diamond vision may say 5000k but they still appear slightly yellow compared to 5000k HID's. Also you won't have the same light output compared to stock globes as to get the 5000k look there is a blue tint on the bulb. This in turn reduces the light output.

The only way you will get colour match on your high beams is if you go HID. But honestly if thats the only reason you want to change your high beams theres not much point. No one sees your high beams anyway.

to be honest I like that look the more white as it lights up the road, plus my stock globes I don't believe have ever been changed as they have faded quite abit, no where near as bright as my dads 2000 hilux I was driving prior, I don't underestimate the HIDs at all as I have them on my lows/fogs and love them, just a cheaper ulturnative that I can change later on :) this thread was more to check the bulb size then for me to chose between halogen and HID I have already made my decision

good, but should have gone full HID, I have just gone from those globes to HID's in my high beams and its crazy how it lights up the night.

I like it... but then I'm biased - that's the setup I have (for the time being anyway).

I think the transition to match colour temp first, and then go for higher lux later, is quite common for those who want to keep it stock :mrgreen:
