I always wanted to investigate the feasibility of removing that terrible ugly centre speaker in the dash and getting gauge(s) custom built into the space.
It's not high up on my list though and I don't know what size space you have to play with without the speaker there so I don't know how clean and low profile you could get it.
It would be no good for large gauges though.

In the end it could be a terrible idea. Or it could be awesome.

That mount looks great lunchbox.

Any details and where can I get one, including the stitched surround.

That does look rather neat. How is it fastened to the dash? Have you run the wiring via the top vent?

Its a provo gauge i ordeded from Nengun http://www.nengun.com/prova/meter-hood i had it covered by a local guy in chiping norton whilst i lived in sydney. just took it in and said can you make it match the dash. 3 days later i picked it up like that color is pretty close the stitching was his call. not what i would have asked for but still turned out allright. its a hard shape to wrap in leather. you pull out the top vent and its shaped to fit in the hole spot on. a littel double sided tap around the insde of the vent hole. it has not come off in four years. i just drilled a small hole in the vent pipe with a small gromet. the control box is in the glovebox. my sat nav CD unit is under the seat so it sits in the hole where it would normally be. i have a auto so i used the clutch hole in firwall to put wires from the sender unit. i did the same for a mate. he didnt cover his gauge holder with leather and it still looks good. best part is you can take it off with no damage to the dash.

Does anyone know if anyone manufactures a similar pod to these which were designed for Mazda. Essentially cuts the air on vent in half and has a little pod for the boost gauge.

Mine is in the cubby. Personally I don't see the point of putting them somewhere overt. Just asking for tickets. Though I guess my whole wagon echoes this philosophy. And if anyone cuts me down by saying "but it is eaiser to see" I do hope when you are up your car for the rent you are looking at the road, and not at the instruments.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

mine is perfectly legal as it does not obstruct any views being one gauge but some states are different. plus i have sat nav so cant place there. im working on a holder to place 2 gauges where the ashtray in front of the shifter sits. i would not go a 2 or 3 gauge pod ont the piller as a personel thing as i think the look crap. the closer to looking OEM the better. having them easier to see is still a good thing cause when your up it you can still see it out the corner of your eye will your sticking the boot in. not a cut down just a preference. relly only needed for boost.

If you want a triple guage set up ask a member who goes by the name of "Silly Sora" or something allong those lines... He had a very nice set up... But the best set up for me would be this bad boy...

Or this one on it's own if i can't find the triple guage in the cubby...

If anyone knows where to find the triple cubby ones let me know!
