sent a question to a seller selling the philips diamond vision HB3 globes on eBay, this is the reply i received (not that helpful :P )

'Hi there, thans for your enquiry. I guess it's because of philips's latest technology, they make the globes at same voltage but higher output which means brighter. So far I have only got report from one customer who said one of his crystalvision globes failed two weeks after and I send him a new one finally. I have been using XtremeVision for half yeares, what I can say about it is they are definitely worth that money because they are really bright. Hope this helps.
Cheers'

JKeep2.5i wrote:bump!, does anyone know if i put new highbeamers in that have 65w/12.8v rating compared to the stock 60w/12v rating for HB3 halogen high beams, if this will cause any problems to wiring or the light housing??

I've done some quick maths and figured out that the stock high beams (60/12= 5) run on 5amps, compared to the new high beams i want to put in (65/12.8=5.078) run on 5.078amps. meaning there is a difference of 78mA, my question is will this make a difference? mainly to how the wiring is rated as i don't wanna cause any damaged to the wiring or light housing, i do know a little about this as I'm a first year apprentice electrician, however not being a auto electrician I'm not 100% sure, any info would be much appreciated :)

cheers Jerred.

First of all, you have calculated using 2 different values of voltage. 12 v 12.8. Secondly, no one runs their lights with the car off. The lights are on when the car is running and hence your voltage is now 14.4V as given by the alternator.

Using 14.4V, you will have a current draw of 4.16A for the 60W globe and 4.51A for the 65W globe.

I think that the fuse for the left hand headlight is seperate to that of the right hand headlight and they are each rated at 7.5A.

Lets assume a pretty bad case here and say that you are running the 65W globes with the car off and the battery has lost a bit of charge (11.5V). Going by this, 65W / 11.5V = 5.65A

You should be fine.
