Vf36 setup

Postby legacydan » Tue Apr 12, 2011 5:49 am

So my car has been with my mechanic for the last 2 weeks. I got a vf36 from a spec C along with spec C headers and up-pipe and went for a Milltek downpipe to bolt on to the vf36, i assummed this was a bolt on job but mechanic is saying the up pipe is a lot shorter than the standard one and a few other issues. Im wondering has anyone on here got this setup and did you encounter any problems?

Has he pulled it all apart and physically lined it up yet? or is he just assuming that it wont fit without yet pulling it down?

Because essentially the spec C up pipe is physically shorter yes, but the rest of the manifold has a longer run length compared to the stock one to account for the twin separate up pipes from each header. It may in the end marginally be in a different location but i don't think enough to not fit? If your happy to pay the labour get him to pull the stock manifold off and then go over to the shop and both physically compared the two manifolds side by side and then you can decide whether you want to continue or not.

This is reverse for aftermarket manifolds too, in run length.

actually just had a look and the spec C is off an EJ20 and the aftermarket manifolds only list them for EJ20's thus yours being EJ25 there may be a difference.. not sure..??

Can you mechanic fabricate as well? If he can get him to extend the current up pipe, you wont know until your past the point of no return ;)

I think Dan has an EJ20? He has a pre facelift.

thanks for the comments lads, Tangcla is correct mine is an Ej20. i checked out those kando up pipe and that you showed me Gambit and i think they will have the same issue, just being a bit too short. I couldnt have left my car in at a worse time to the mechanic, its my first time using him and he comes highly recommended, but he is also one of the main mechanics on the ITCC this year so he is out the door with work and nobody has these Legacys over here, so its all trial and error really, i dont know anyone anywhere that is trying or has tried the same setup so its quite frustrating! i think we will just end up extending the up pipe a small bit. He can fabricate too, to some extent

Whether he has a pre or post face lift, I think the JDM Gen 4's only came in the 2.0 turbo.
