I was referring to the fact that all parts on the car which are non-HSV specific, are basically a standard Holden that is built to the same quality control. HSV have their own seats and door cards, but the dashboards and headlining, carpets etc are the same from what I remember.

Australia's car industry sucks. Australia should really have the lemon law like the US. more than 3 warranty repair then they will have to give you another new car or full refund. Australia consumers are not well protected.

And I am very sure I am not the only liberty gt that went back for warranty. I was also told there were quite a few Liberty went back for the same issue that My car is having. someone told me on today tonight's news they say there was 25% of warranty rate for the new Subarus. (I am not sure if this is true can someone confirm?)

Did I mention my other family car My10 RX impreza which is 5month old is having some cracking noise from the passenger side as well on bumpy road. I think this is more than just bad luck. it's more like bad quality control. I haven't got time to send the RX back for warranty yet. but once I fix my GT i will.

While I was at the service center last time waiting. I was talking to another Impreza owner who was also waiting for warranty repair told me His brand new 2010 Impreza have Rust and they have to order parts from Japan to replace it. Rust on new car how doe this happen. Subaru really need to do a better quality control.

Subaru does make very good cars if you compare it's price and specs vs other brands. But if they work a little harder on quality control then it should out sale all other brands easy.

I've read quite few different article about holden and ford's bad quality control and people having to repair like 40times or something. I have a friend also told me that he will never buy a Ford or holden again. But All Subaru cars are made in Japan and Japanese products are normally always good. Maybe Subaru Rushed the MY10 release I think.

There's a lot more to it then that :)

Can't comment on their QC, but there is a rather large difference in they're mechanical work, even in their paint quality over a standard Holden.

Once again, this may not have been the case 5-10 years, but it is today.

Just so everyone is aware... Quality Control = Steps taken to make sure that a company's products or services are of sufficiently high quality. also called quality assurance.

Once again, most markets these days are driven by wanting to maximise profits & sales. No longer is it about a passion for creating the ultimate drivers cars, or the highest quality car etc - Well at least in most cases.

Has it occurred to anyone that the standards from Subaru & other various car manufacturers in this price range have been decreased over the past few years?

With all the pressures to be "more green" in regards to how the cars are manufactured, this doesn't surprise me at all personally. Same goes for electronics industry as well as other industries... Once upon a time a fridge lasted a lifetime, now, you'll be lucky if they last for 5 years.

Get with the times people!... The consumer world we live in is changing for the worst IMHO. I'm not saying that if I bought a brand new Gen 5 I wouldn't be sh!tty if I had warranty issues, because I would be... But it's now common practise & it wouldn't matter if you bought a Ferrari, Porsche, BMW or any high end car... You would still be subject to the same issues. It's just that you'd expect much higher customer service from those high end manufacturers.

I cannot think of a single car that my family or friends have owned in the last 10 years that hasn't had any warranty claims... Just some cars (Stupid Mazda!) had more then others :P

Andy your expecting $200 000 build quality on are car worth $25k and the other being $60k………. Wake up sunshine.

The car industry in Australia with continue to suck.. We are a small market at the end of the earth, no car makers really see Australia as a major market.

The only reason why the Yanks have a no lemon policy is due to the fact that hardly anyone physically owns their car, most forms of finance in the states are leased/rental form of purchase…… one of the main reasons why the GFC heavily effected the automotive market in the states.

I've just put in an order for a GT auto wagon, and was wondering if you still need to baby the car before the first service? The last new car I bought was a Mazda SP23, and the dealership told me to drive it like I stole it, so if there are problems they'd be unearthed... but that was a lease car I was intending to get rid of in three years anyway, but I'm intending on keeping the lib.

Standard operation manual suggestion is to not race the engine and keep below 4000rpm for the first 1000miles. Some controversy whether that needs to be adhered to though. I have had dealers tell me ' yeah, while running in make sure you keep the revs below this (and points to the redline) :D '

Intrestingly the new GT does not require a service (at least by the service manual) until 12500 - thats different from my previous expereince with turbo subarus

change the oil when you get home and use mineral oil then change it agian at 1000k with synthetic...just drive like its got 50000k but dont thrash it

Just clicked over 1300 k's in my MY10 GT Auto Sedan (May 10 build)
No issues to speak of...... touch wood.

I agree with the luck of the draw theory though,
Given the amount of cars they push off the prod line week in and out, a dodgy one is bound to slip through occasionally. If it happens to a Ferrari, well....

I am still waiting for some seat parts, been waiting for the parts for over a month already and still waiting.

Bought a used 08 sti with 10,000k from vic and had the diff replaced in qld due to a whine...perfect now. Looking for other faults but to no avail. Was looking at the my10 but I just wasn't bought. Extremely happy with my decision.

G'day

Dont worry my 2010 Lib GT is having a few little issues as well, similar to your Lib.
Thought I would go into detail to help others having similar issues.
My issues are #2,3,4

#2 Rear suspension noise (2nd warranty repair job not fixed waiting for parts to come from japan 4 weeks later)
#3 now the left passenger sit is making louder and louder noise when no one is sitting there. (I’ve to book in again for warranty repair the 3rd time.) The noise becomes louder and louder and it’s very depressing.
#4 2 place have defective paints that might need to repaint. There are marks inside the clear coat and paint that can’t be washed off.

Issue 2
Rear suspension noise (mild creaking sound when turing LEFT into an ASCENDING driveway) turned out to be the handbrake cable, the whole assembly needs to be replaced on the rear wheels.
SUBARU has released an updated version which eliminates this problem. FYI the replacement costs $2,000 (lucky its under warranty)

Issue 3
Passenger seat base FAILED (according to SUBARU) its just a plastic base, probably cracked from factory install. I had the exact same symptoms as you

Issue 4
Defective paint, this one will be a hassle to prove, I have a bluish blemish on my bonnet the size of a 5c coin. It looks like its under the clear coat.

Satus with SUBARU [Tom Kerr Subaru - Ryde, NSW]
All issues reported and diagnosed by head mechanic, his name is Dave he a good bloke and seems to know his stuff.
Parts have been ordered, it is taking a long time. Apparently they had to order a heap load of the seat bases, #3 is more common that I though (so is #2).

Issue #4 - The paint has to be checked by a panelbeater, there happens to be one next door to Tom Kerr Subaru service. Tom Kerr's said they need to get this looked at, hopefully when I take my car back in for the other issues.
I'll also get another panelbeaters opinion and escalate this to a Subaru paint specialist if I have to.

In addition, I had the 'system checking disk' problem with my McIntosh NAV system they must have upgraded the firmware, because this has dissapeared (until I disconnect the battery).
I would expect a more permanent fix for this down the track, as in the I.T Industry there are always service packs coming out and hopefully Ill get them applied to my Liberty over the warranty period.
I must say, other than that the car has been wonderful to drive, I am very much looking forward to getting my bling parts installed from PhatGT shortly 8)

Andy,
Any update on
#5 when stoping at the red light the aircon compressor going on and off would slightly move the car. (not sure if this is happening to all GT yet so not sure if it’s under warranty)

I've also got this, and is quite frustrating.

I've also got rear suspension noise like your #2... I wonder if i'm suffering from a similar issue. Did you say turning left into ascending driveway is a good test. I'm trying to get some repeatability before i take it in to Subaru.

My voicedialing was fixed when i dropped it in for a new firmware update.
