HIDs

Here's where you can ask for suggestions what MODs you should consider. Let the experts tell you what you should add.

Digging up the thread again. Any ideas for a good set of high-beam globes? They would need to be H9's correct?

I was looking at Philips, but it seems extremely hard to find Philips H9 globes. Any other suggestions? Naturally because I live around some moderately open roads with a fair bit of night-wildlife (including the drunk ones), I would like to have some good hi-beams.

Just check what type of high beam bulb you use ....

I know it's HB3 (9005) bulb but ... some people told me they using H9 ?!? especially in late model Outback....

Who's in Perth then?

Thinking of changing my foggies to match the "whiteness" (6000k?) of my lowbeams. Suggestions?

I recently changed my Fog's to 6000k using a kit from Leo (hks180) and the low beam xenons look a yellow tinge in comparison, at a guess I would say they are maybe 4500k-5000k stock, so if you are after the full white look you would need replacement xenon globes at 6000k which cost $50 not including postage from Leo I think.

I'm currently trying to find a suitable HID replacement globe (Well actually Leo is the one doing the finding), and I am also purchasing a 6000k high beam HID kit from him too for the full white treatment.
I will let you know what I find, I know that Jim(Arith) has 6500k D-Surpass globes in his right now.

Just had a look at my high beams this arvo when I did the HID conversion for my low beams, confirmed H9 globes.

So now the obvious questions are...does the HB3 give off more light? and will it fit the H9 connector?

Cause at the moment, well, since I got the car, I've always found the high beams kinda sucky. They're that bad sometimes I forget I have them on, so I'm thinking this is a globe problem and not a design fault as nobody else seems to be whinging as much as me :)

from my understanding for the normal halogen bulb wise there is no difference ...other then the base is different.

There are lot of people convert the 9005(Halogen) to fit in 9006(Halogen) application for extra 10w .....

But if you going HID then there is no difference in the light out put because it's 35w.

I was thinking of keeping my high beams as halogens though.

Chris I am replacing my High beams with Xenon in the next few weeks, and I will let you know how it goes, pretty much look to me as the Leo light test subject. I'm so in to lights that I replaced my parker lights with new ones from Leo only 3 weeks later because he got new ones in that were slightly brighter 8)

I also have the GT.B which gives me the experience with the stock xenon's which are accompanied by the regular halogen high beams, so watch this space for pics in the next couple of weeks when Leo get's stock in and I will give you a full run down of the pro's and con's of the high beam HID's.

Had a look at the manual. It says that for cars with HID lights standard, the high beam is a HB3 globe, but for cars without HID it is H9, so I guess that solves the problem as to why some people use HB3 and others use H9.

I saw some H9 and some HB3 globes on ebay. The H9 ones were 65W, while the HB3 globes were 100W!!!!! Though I am worried this may melt the headlight housing....

Leo you said before some people were changing the H9 connector to a HB3 one. Do you know how they're doing this?

hahaha you will be right mate ......

one thing you need to remember is 100w halogen bulb will produce a lot more HEAT !!!

and speaking from experience .. when i used the Japanese over rated halogen bulb (for example if normal bulb is 65W ... over rated one i got is 120w) ...i burn them every 3-4 months .. $60 - 80 each time = $$$$
