K&N Panel Filter? MY03 Liberty N/A

Postby Nottage969 » Mon Mar 21, 2011 10:01 am

Hi all,
First of all, sorry if i posted in the wrong section. And i did do a quick search, but got a little bit confused with all the modded air intake jargon, etc. and couldn't really find an answer to my question.

I have a stock MY03 Liberty, with the stock air induction. And looking at my stock Panel Air Filter, it looked a bit dirty and since i was doing a service, i decided i should change it. Then i questioned myself whether i should just buy another stock one, or something like a K&N? I did a bit of research on the K&N products and realise you have to buy re-oiling and cleaning kits and stuff for them to maintain them, but if done correctly, i shouldn't have to replace it again...Is it worth it? Can anybody confirm that i'll notice any power gain (not that i'm expecting it or changing my air filter to get more power!) I'm also led to believe i'll get slightly better fuel consumption (not that that bothers me either!). Or should i look at modifying the intake to get some more cool air into the engine first?

All suggestions are welcome, i just can't see possible ways to modify the air intake that's all...

Cheers in advance :D

just buy stock ones and replace/ clean them frequently.
no appreciable power gains to be had.

you can remove the convoluted inatke piping from the airbox to the inner guard and replace it with some silicone/ aluminium/ stainless/ PVC piping to allow smoother airflow into the airbox.
Along with enlarging the airbox opening to suit larger piping, will help it breathe a little easier

less pumping losses (think of breathing through a drink-straw vs a garden hose, and the extra effort required with sucking through the smaller hose) gives better economy and more power.
although the gains will only be small, they do help a little.
combine that with a well maintained/ serviced engine (frequent use of Upper Engine Cleaner at each oil chage)
aswell as freeing up the exhaust a little, and you will gain a few HP and an engine that revs a little more freely

Go to vendors and look at phats HKS panel filter, probably cheaper then stock one anyway, get the blitz air con filter while your there. It would be dirtier then the intake filter!
