B4 Exhaust - Dump pipes

B4 Exhaust - Dump pipes

Postby Jimmy S » Wed Sep 22, 2010 7:11 pm

Hi Guys,

Got a mate looking to do an exhaust for his B4 and its been a while since I did much research for the twin turbo setup!

I've no problems recommending him a local shop who can do up a nice system from the cat back, but there aren't many people willing to tackle the dump pipes?

Seems the Syms dump pipe is a good option, although its not especially cheap! And I've no idea if its even still available?

What is the dump pipe of choice for the B4's?

Cheers!

Cost me $1200 for custom made 2 1/2 in down pipes and a 3in centre pipe with a high flow cat and resonator.

Hmm. I did get a quote for 2.5" dumps, 3" centre with high flow cat and resonator + muffler, and it was a bit over 3k fitted... Sound about right?
I'm in Perth btw.

That is ridiculously expensive... Would be significantly cheaper to bring in the Syms dump!

Hmm.. any idea how much it should cost for a turbos back exhaust in Perth then?
Yeah, I was quite shocked, I know it should cost a fair bit, I didn't think that much though..

My mate was quoted $450-$600 depending on mufflers for the rest of the system in painted mandrel bent mild steel... So that plus the dump pipes should be a good baseline for a well priced system. I'm sure you can get fancier off the shelf systems, but generally speaking they will net much the same result!

Still need to find dump pipes though!

Oh would it make more sense if i said the quote was for a full stainless steel system? Or would that still be more expensive.

Where was that quote from?

Stainless will be more but shouldn't be significantly more.

Would make more sense, but its still expensive, especially if its custom built... You can get a complete Jap system here for less than that I would think!

His quote was through Mettams in Morley, Pat there has been good to me for many years, and does good work, so I will continue to recommend him where I can!

Yeah I think I have heard that place been mentioned on perth-wrx. But they're not keen to do the dumps? What about Butler?

The time consuming part is removing the heat shields. You should ask them if you did it would it cost less. I removed my shields so that helped a lot and time wise to build the down pipes and centre pipe was about 6 hours drive in drive out. I watch and it was not hard got them to make it. I think he quote you high because they dont want the job.

Would I do it again no because the car has a bit more lag and uses more fuel.

Really? Did you do a retune? I would have though that you'd get less lag...
