Second Gen Legacy GT-B?

Postby brashquido » Wed Jan 06, 2010 2:49 pm

Hi All,

I don't know a great deal about cars, but I do know what I want out of a car and was hoping that I could get some advice. Basically I'm looking for something that is;

- AWD for that bit of extra traction when going camping or to the snow and the roads are a bit more slippery than usual
- plenty of space in the back for putting bulky camping/snow gear
- capable of city driving, but best suited for highway driving comfort
- reliable and economical to run, but with enough poke on demand to get up steepish inclines and pass traffic on country roads
- affordable as I only have around $12k to spend
- fairly readily available parts that don't cost the earth

After looking around on carsales the late 90's Legacy GT-B seems to keep ending up at the top of my list. Probably because I've owned 2 Subaru wagons before. I am not interested in modifying engines or anything like that, and apart from maybe putting in a decent stereo would be more than happy with a stock standard car from what I can see. Do you think the Second Gen Legacy GT-B is a good choice for a lower cost performance AWD wagon, or should I be looking at something else?

P.S - I don't want to get a Forrester or Outback as they are the sort of car my parents would drive (and do).

Thanks

There's nothing wrong with Forrester or Outback so don't rule them out too quickly.

This isn't my cup of tea, but do you think this Forrester looks like a car your parents would drive?

No, and it's not a car I want to drive either. What a horrid colour!

It would be a good choice. IMO Gen2 GTB's are a very good looking car and one of subaru's better lookers
