I've been interested in B4's for a while now, and I'm finally in the market to buy one. I just had a few questions about what I should be looking for and about tuning. For example I've found one advertised that has had a higher capacity battery installed, as well as front brake rotors. The timing belt was also done 40k before the 100k mark (as a preventative measure due to the cars age v kms). Does any of this seem suspicious for any reason, I'm not a tech head but I like know exactly what I'm buying.

My biggest concern is that the car has had an Ecutek chip installed. I assumed chips were the old technology, so either it's a typo or it was done a long time ago. If I buy a B4 without a tune I would probably get an Ecutek tune anyway, but I probably wouldn't go as far as exhaust changes, CAI, etc. I'm keen but I'm not that keen. If the car does have an Ecutek chip in it from a while ago, does that mean if I wanted to get it re-tuned it would be less expensive because the license has already been paid for?

Anything else I should keep my eye out for?

So I'm going to have a look/test drive of a few B4's today. Anything in particular I should be looking for with this model? Other than your general, blowing smoke, rust check, clutch check, etc?

Why would the timing belt be done at 60k??

I'm assuming the owner was following the rule of @ 100k or every 4 years.

I did mine last year at 75,000km, just to play it safe, even the though the k's were low, the car was still 7yrs old. Perhaps this owner has the same thought process?
Turns out i was lucky i did, mechanic told me my old belt had started to fray

Belts aren't bananas they don't go off
