upgrades

For the older twin turbo B4 models

upgrades

Postby texaspete » Thu Mar 21, 2013 8:45 pm

hi all,
Looking at doing some upgrades for the b4 and have been listed the following items to do and have the tune done.
1.MRT S/S 3"cat back exhaust system = $1650
2.MRT Twin dump front section = $1100
3. Full ECUTEKtype 3 custom tune
Car already has 500 hp fuel pump and tune from mrt in 2006 by previous owner but does not feel like ti is living up to it's potential.

All these things have been quoted by S&J Automotive from SA that as im sure you guys are all aware have a great rep in liberty, wrx and evo tuning.

Please advise what you guys think of this and if not what to do as i am in melbourne and dont really trust tuners here.

cheers texaspete

mate, your BEST upgrade is take that $5K (and run away from MRT)
convert the car to single turbo with a VF34, get a good re-tune done (stay away from ECUwreck and the HUGE licence fees) and you'll enjoy it a lot more, get more power, better economy and better drivability.

I've had a modified TT and you are ALWAYS having to compromise how you would like to drive it.
If you don't trust Melbourne guys, Drive it to Sydney, throw $5k to Ben (Mechanical-Stig from MCM) and Scott at Ichiban
or Michael (PHATGT around here) at Garage 88 and let them work their magic.

This is the best advice you will get. DO THIS.
Although every now and then MRT get it right, I hear too many stories if when they get it wrong.

fuck no they wont be touching the car but the exhaust and dump come from them and will be shipped to sa to S&J automotive down there for them to do all the work. Have heard nothing but good results about sean down there and his tuning

Mate, S&J are sweet don't let anyone here tell you anything different. They are a bit on the expensive side of getting work done, but Sean has knowledge like no body else in SA.

If I was you I'd look at getting something custom made or some Jap aftermarket exhaust rather than the MRT exhaust, as it is massively overpriced and ugly if you ask me.

Once you've done that, then take it down and get it tuned by Sean.
HyperFlow TMIC | HyperFlow Air Intake | AVO Dump Pipe | HKS ES Premium Exhaust | ECUTEK Type 2
Cusco Strut Brace w/BCS | F&R Cusco Sway Bars | Cusco HD Rear SB Mounts | Whiteline Anti-lift Kit
HKS Hipermax III BBTUNE Coilovers |18" Enkei EMK3 Hyper Silver

No one is saying that S&J are not good.
the MRT bits are too expensive and ECUwreck is also way too expensive for what you get.

Get Sean to convert it to single and tune from there.
Surely he offers other tuning options?

Vf-34 on my B4 was less then impressing rob , the vf23 had heaps more , if i had my time again i'd got a TD05-18g vf turbos compressor surge like a mole
