Hey,

I am having trouble with an 02 B4 Liberty Sedan I bought on weekend.
Living in ACT I bought it from NSW,

went thru all the channels to get ti registered and they claim the exhaust is too loud at 97db.
It is a custom 3 inch with a cannon on end.

Went to a few exhaust places and they all say have to replace whole thing. 'whatever'

So my question is, if I grab a second hand wrx rear muffler, will that fit? obviously will have to mod the pipework.

Or are there any other options I have to get it quieter?

Cheers

Yes.. had the same issue with a 3" and cannon (except that it was me that thought it was too loud!) - went to an exhaust place and said get rid of that cannon (told him to chop it off and keep it if he wanted.. didn't know the guy, never been there before, cost $165 all up and that was including the muffler, which was new, and the 3-2" reducer he made and welded on..

Moral of the story: just say you hate the cannon and ask for a standard muff..

I use to have JUNBL cannon on my B4 and it came with a silencer. This just slotted in the end and reduced noise when required.
There are several types on EBay

I have a standard B4 muffler in the garage that is surplus to requirements, just been collecting dust for the past couple of years since my exhaust job.
I have a hot dog in my 3" exhaust and it brings the noise levels down a lot.

These wont cut it as far as the ACT EPA or what ever theyre called.

Ive sorted this I hope, http://www.theexhaustshop.com.au/ will be fitting a better exhaust they retains the rumble but is quieter. cross fingers.

A couple of options...

You could cut a section of pipe out of the middle and have a resonator put in. Have them put flanges at either end and make it swappable, so you can keep a straight pipe if you so desire. I had something similar done to my old car, it did the trick and cost me less than a hundred bucks. Do it properly, do it once.

Or, if you're *really* in a bind (or are a dodgy tightarse :P ), putting a restriction in the exhaust generally makes it quieter. Do with that what you will, lol.
