Sat Nav for MY06 3.0R

I have just recently bought a MY06 3.0R Liberty and I am looking in to my sat nav options (doesn't have the factory unit).
I was thinking the Eclipse AVN726A http://www.eclipse-web.com.au/Site/Product/Product.aspx?ProductID=f7525562-7e92-102c-afa9-8fd06794b0b4&CategoryID=04031090-406c-102b-b5be-3e5906103f0c Has anyone had experience with this HU in a Liberty? Do the steering wheel controls work?

But the question I have is this: can I install it in the position between the vents where the sat nav is supposed to go? And if I can, what happens to the McIntosh radio/cd stacker? I don't need the CD stacker or old radio, it's just that I would prefer to have the sat nav closer to eye level. If this isn't recommended and I take the radio out, the radio seems separate from the climate control panel, which fascia would you recommend and where can I get it from?

If I take the car to a pro, will they be able to organise the fascia etc?

I am currently /trying to fit a 7" standard size screen into mine aswell but at JB-HIFI they couldnt find and fascia boards... they said i had to buy it from an aftermarket website and give it to them to install.. but the one I found was about $350.. but I dont think they get much cheaper...

Mate, there has been a fair few topics regarding that Eclipse unit already discussed.

If you use the search function for 'Eclipse' under this sub-forum, I'm pretty sure some of the members have already discussed it to death.

The short answer from memory is that it is a staggering amount of work to get it into that cubby area...standard stuff, anything can be done but it will cost a lot of $$$ but I do see the appeal in having it at eye level, I was thinking the same at one point then decided to go travelling to Europe instead for a few weeks (yep, the job is THAT expensive)

An aftermarket fascia is required to install the Eclipse deck into the standard location and this will be covered in a previous forum, suggested vednors will also be covered in the previous forums.

Yeah I did search the forums, couldn't find anything about it being difficult to install in the cubby area, one guy seems to have done it ok, but I am leaning towards just buying a double din panel now anyway. I have attached an image of my current setup, if I buy a new panel I am guessing I need to go for the single climate zone black fascia, am I correct?

From what I have read most people have used new amps instead of trying to make the stock McIntosh amp compatible with the new HU, is this the case? If so what amps would people currently recommend?

G'Day Bud,

- Get that fascia kit but try and get it through a member here called Phat GT - he has a Commercial Vendor page BUT send him an e-mail rather than posting a question or sending him a PM

- Some of the guys have managed to tap the existing amp but I'd lean towards a 5 channel amp (1 channel per front and rear and the 5th channel for the sub) only thing is that they tend to be a bit large so you will probably end up putting it in the boot and re-wiring the car...the amp thing is just a personal preference and probably isn't that necessary seeing recently a member here posted a tutorial on how he got to to groove with the stock amp

Honestly, I'd wish I went all out and did a Car PC install that basically has a Eee PC in a ruggedised chassis under the drivers seat, touch screen in the cubby area, GPS module, external hard drives / USB sticks for music or video and engine diagnostics with all audio all inputed into the stock deck via CD changer plug on the rear but my priorities aren't with car pimpage right now but I suspect it would be a little cheaper than what I would have done new deck and amp wise.
