I ended up bumping into a guy at an auto store getting a new system installed in his and was chatting to him about our cars, ended up selling me his cable for $40, which honestly is still ridiculously overpriced, but better than $130..

Ok so i've hit a snag installing the cable, i've searched for threads on how to remove the centre console and the box etc.. but none have a detailed description on it, the whole centre console is real loose but it feels like there is a screw or something somewhere near the shifter, i can't find where it is though..

The pic is from the thread i found on how to remove it, but i just circled where i got stuck..

Theres a little clip under there. Its black and its not a pop out one. You need to lever it off. Once you see it, its not hard, very easy. Heres a pic of where it should be.

"Pull up with some force on the front of the center console. Start where you removed the handbrake boot. There are two pop clips that comes straight up (yellow circles). Then just to the
left of the shifter, there is a plastic clip that you have to unclip and pull up(red circle)."

In terms of how to pull the trim apart and take the HU out, most of it is in here. But i guess it would be good to have a dedicated AUX install how to.

Oh i totally missed that thread, hmm..
I still might make one though, make it easier for people to find a thread on how to pull it all out without wrecking their interior and breaking stuff.

That would be awesome, Dean. I myself will be doing the same in a few weeks so your work through would be a great help. And congrats on the install!

Im willing to get a AUX input for my Subaru Liberty MY07 2.0R, it didnt come with my car :(
Soo disappointed.
I called up Subaru about getting a AUX installed on my car, they said the cable is about $140 and installation is about $60 - $80
Wouldnt it be cheaper if i buy the AUX and install it myself?

Yes, there are guides available on the forums.
Seems a pretty simple job.

Does anyone have a pic of the cable installed?

Is it just a 3.5mm cable or is it actually an Ipod outlet? Can you skip tracks etc with it through the steering wheel controls? I get the feeling I totally misunderstood what the factory cable can do.

Will it power and charge an Ipod? They will work with a factory sat-nav installed

If not how do I achieve the above?

Yes, it's just a 3.5mm jack that fits below the 12v input in the centre console between the seats, you cannot skip tracks with the stereo controls or the steering wheel controls, it will not charge through the 3.5mm jack.

There is a clarion box thing you can install that has an ipod specific cable, i've never used it but it looks like a lot of hassle, but you can use the controls to change the track, and i believe it will charge it also.

Is the cable a regular 3.5mm male jack at the head unit end or is it one of those funky loom type connections? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Cheers
