MY07 AUX input

Postby LordFigTree » Tue Aug 17, 2010 4:04 am

Firstly i know there are a few other topics for the same thing, but they didn't have what i was looking for.. kinda.

So i have the McIntosh 6 CD stacker in my lib, there's an AUX button and the bit for the plug in the centre console between the seats, but it hasn't been installed. I went to the Subaru dealership yesterday to see how much it'd be to get installed, they said $120-130 for the cable alone, and another $40-60 to install it which is ridiculous.

So i was wondering if there is anywhere where i can get the same kind of cable cheaper and install it myself, i've checked out all those clarion ones, but i prefer something a bit more.. proper, thanks.

Just get the Subaru one and install it yourself... will take 5mins...

Or you can wait around for someone to be selling one on... which doesn't happen often...

Where are you based Mr Figtree?

I'm looking to buy a similar thing shortly and intall it myself. We could do a dual install if you're not too keen on the tools.

Jimmy, i thought of that, but then i'm still paying at least $130 for just that little cable, but i probably will end up doing it in a few weeks if i can't find a cheaper one around anywhere.

Jaz, i'm based in Canberra, that would be helpful but i see you're from Brisbane.

I'm on the same boat as you guys. I just called Denlo Parramatta and was quoted for $190 for parts alone and $224 for parts & fitted! :x

Is having Satnav make the part price different?

Not by the information that I received from my parts guy. The same parts guy told me RRP on the cable is around $125.00 so I'd question the $190 dollar parts only quote.

I just gave penrith subaru a call. I got quoted $124.35 for the part and about $100 for labour = $224.35 for parts + install.

I don't have the Mcintosh system though, so I'm wondering if it changes the price/difficulty of installation at all.

Doesnt change anything. The AUX cable is pretty simple.

You pull out ur headunit
Unplug 1 connector (lets call it connector A).
Plug connector A into corresponding connector on AUX cable (call it connector B)
Plug the free connector on AUX cable (call it connector C) back into HU where you pulled Connnector A out from.
Then run the 3.5mm jack box down the centre console and plug it into the spare space.

Pretty simple, should only take 15-20min.

The "trim removal" section of my Amp Install guide will give you the important parts.

Hmm, I might have a go at that on my next set of days off. Sounds relatively simple, I'm just hesitant to be ripping apart the center console, but I guess everything can be replaced/fixed...right?

Honestly, its not hard. Its just takes a while to do it because your scared of breaking something. The handbrake leather boot requires a bit of force. Then the rest is quite simple.

Thing is though, we're still paying $130 just for a little cable, I was hoping some unkown people have made a cable identical to it for way cheaper.

Not quite as easy as making one up. The cheapest option is to post in the WTB section and maybe someone that had AUX in and upgraded to an aftermarket headunit may be willing to sell you theirs. I picked mine up from a mate that upgraded headunit.

Anyone interested in one of these in Bris? I can get them for $105 with $15 post so it's only worth it if I get a few to share the post.

Interest?
