Ipod install on 2010 Mcintosh

Postby skyva » Tue Jun 15, 2010 10:37 pm

Hi All,
I have recently had delivered a 2010 Outback 3.6R premium. I ordered the Ipod cable with it but apparently they are back ordered. I was told the cable would be sent to me, which is fine.

I looked in the center console and all I see is an RCA jack and a 12v power socket (aka cigarette lighter).

The only Ipod cables I have seen seem to connect to a usb port.

Am I missing something? Does the cable require professional fitting/pulling apart the audio/nav system?

I presume the Outback is the same as the Liberty GT premium in satnav system so I thought others with the overpriced Ipod connection could let me know whether theirs is plugged somewhere out of the way or permanently connected to the audio. The fact that they charge $55 to fit it suggests that it is more than a plug in but not too hard.

Overall I am very happy with the car, reasonable grunt and handles well. I am constantly surprised at how big it is (height mainly) but ground clearance is the reason I chose the Outback over the Liberty GT.

Had a similar issue but the idiots at the stealership forgot to put the ipod cable in prior to delivery.....you can tackle it yourself if you know what your doing but for $55 it's not worth the risk of scratching something. I got the dealership to fit mine, it does involve console out and nav unit out.

You may want to do the nav hack if you tackle it yourself so all the functions of the Audio/nav system are useable while driving as this will make the system more of a pleasure to use.

Thanks, that is what I thought. I have the gear for the nav hack, and was going to do it immediately, but I didn't want to do it if the dealership was going to pull apart the dash to fit the cable, as they would see it.
