Line-out converter - To do or not to do?

Has anyone kept their stock 2007 McIntosh Head Unit and just run a LOC to an aftermarket amp? Sounds/looks like a fun weekend project considering I already have a Alpine MRP300 amp sitting at home.
I assume I would just need to:
1. Attach LOC to speaker outs (which i could detach near amp under seat or does it need to be closer to HU?)
2. Run RCAs from LOC to AMP
3. Run the speaker wires from amp to speakers. I would put the front speakers onto the amp and bridge the rear for the sub (Kenwood KFC-W800 - 150 rms). Then i assume i can just run the rears straight off the back of the head unit?
4. Then ur usual power, ground, remote wire, etc.
Mihai's HOW TO post seems to prove the above theory right? Let me know if any of the above sounds wrong?

The speaker inputs to the amp are in the DIN cable that plugs in to the HU and the amp under the seat so you would need to find out what pins relate to which speaker input, there isn't any speaker cabling as such going from the HU to the amp. if you find a pin layout then you could hack into the DIN cable and solder on some RCA leads onto the outputs on the DIN cable, which has been done i believe.
The Gen 3 may be different though.
But otherwise, yes, your theory is correct but I don't think it's applicable in this situation. Also, LOCs can have a tendency to induce noise.

Im almost 100% sure it was for the Mac amp as someone wanted to chop up the din cable.

i've explored the option of keeping the stock MY07 headunit and running different amps and squeskers.
have been told that it can be done, but there's a mod to the head unit which first needs to be done. i think it's to change the way the head unit talks to the amp or something...

hey mate.. if you wanna keep using the stock headunit and upgrade speakers/amps/subs then you can buy something along the lines of a signal processor from someone like rockford fosgate.. I had one in my car before i did the facia upgrade and it now sits unused in my cupboard thinking about throwing it up for sale. send me a pm if your interested

I have an alpine-mrp300 which has the built in line convertor and wondering if i can use that instead.
Does anybody have a wiring diagram of the headunit and amp? I just had a quick look at the amp and i presume the white plug is for the "amp to individual speakers" and the speaker inputs to the amp are somehow within the black cable??? If so, is there a way to splice the black cable so i don't have to pull apart or run any wires, i just want to replace the amps.
Please let me know if possible?

Im currently using the built in line convertor of the MRP-F300. Works great

All you need to know is which wire is +/- for each channel (ie front left, front right, back left, back right)
Only issue is that since its a 4 ch amp, you may need a secondary amp to run the sub, or run the sub bridged across channel's 3/4 and lose your rear speakers.

Without pulling everything out, i presume the black plug contains the speaker outs off the HU and inputs to the amp. The white plug on the amp is speaker outs.
Which means i just splice the black cable (similar cable pic attached) and run those to the line in on amp. Then just splice white plug and connect those to speaker out on amp?
I am considering just buying a new HU with RCA outs, lol. Make life soo much easier, lol.

You have a few options, some of which require knowing the pin-outs of the Mc DIN cable.
- keep the MC HU, change amp to one of your choice, with or without LOC needed - depends on amp. need cables from Mc connector to new amp.
- change the HU to one of your choice WITH Line outs - connect these to din cable up at the top, allow them to feed through Mc amp.
- change HU to one without line-outs, and remove Mc amp as well as HU, run a new cable down to amp location that will mate with the white speaker plug. This si what I have just done, with a speaker wire harness from user svxdc . JVC DV6105 - doesnt need the Mc amp at all, much better sound. This HU has line-outs btw, but I am not using them. All I have lost is steering wheel controls, which I never got used to using anyway.....
