Hybrid Sat Nav - can I get it to talk English?

I have a 2001 Lancaster (JDM Outback) with the hybrid sat nav system - it includes the heater controls etc. but it only displays in Japanese. That's fine but what it's saying in Japanese is (loosely translated) "Please to be inserting honourable disc in slot below".
Can I just bang in an Australian/New Zealand data disc and get it to work? (it doesn't have the Japanese boot disc) I get the aircon controls okay but I'd like to stop it demanding the disc every time I turn it on.
If that's possible, which version of the software do I need and how can I get hold of it?
