Kicker splits in 01 Liberty

Postby thomasw » Sun Dec 13, 2009 10:50 am

hey,
I'm looking to upgrade my speakers in my 2001 Liberty GX but am unsure as to whether these particular speakers will fit.
They are Kicker RS65.2 splits. I am trying to avoid any modifications to the existing holes and/or door if possible.
Fairly sure the diameter is fine (6.5"), mainly the depth that i am worried about.
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

haven't installed in that car before, but those splits aren't deep you should be ok. Regardless you will nedd to make custom baffles. I suggest using PET plastic or similar sheeting as MDF soaks up water unless you perfectly seal it with resin.

yea will sort something out with baffles. Does anyone know the actual depth measurements of the stock holes in a Gen III liberty sedan??

Easiest way to check is to remove the door trim then stick a ruler through a service hole and measure the distance between rear of stock speaker and the glass, then remove the stock speaker and measure its depth.

Also bear in mind depending on how much clearance you have between the front of the speaker and the door trim, you can make the baffle thicker to provide more clearance from the glass.. In saying that I have seen BIG and deep speakers fitted to GenIII doors and by no means are those Kickers deep speakers.
